This was amazing!  Highly recommend.  Stunning and not too many tourists.  Take a guide with you as there is so much history and detail that you would not know otherwise.  I really enjoyed this and glad we came as we debated on doing it.  Most people like us combine Memphis and Sakkara as they are close to each other.  Can be easily done in a morning.

Ignore the negative reviews please, if you manage to travel as far as Egypt then this is a must see. Only a handful of tourists around due to COVID but wouldn’t have missed seeing this. Brilliant. Not the usual glamour of some sites but it’s still once in a lifetime visit.

Don't want to repeat my previous colleagues but just say that these are definitely the attractions to visit. Because it's actually two different places - Saqqara pyramids and necropolis plus an (mostly) open-air museum in nearby Memphis (see my separate review) or, as the locals call it, Manf. As to the Saqqara as such, do visit a Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum (not pharaohs at all - just their servants) tomb which is open for tourists and it is even possible to take pictures and film (!) inside - for a ridiculous baksish/tip covertly given to an attendant - and a policeman! - since in these covid times there's no-one around but those two need to still provide for their families. The stepped Pyramid of Djoser (Step Tomb) and a temple are also impressive. Recommended,

A complex of pyramids quite far from Cairo, it is possible to go by Uber or private driver. Sakkara concentrates several pyramids, the main one being Djoser, the first in Egypt made in the style we know today. Memphis is an ancient Egyptian capital that now houses a very interesting open air museum.

Our group visited Memphis and Sakkara with Gate 1 Travel as a half-day tour out of Cairo (about a 45 min drive each way). The pyramid fields that stretch from Giza to Dahshur are all part of the same UNESCO World Heritage site that was inscribed in 1979. The Memphis Historical site, an open-air museum consisting of mainly ruins and several interesting artifacts, provides a glimpse of ancient Memphis. Sakkara is more impressive. It is Egypt’s largest archaeological site and is divided into North and South areas. The main monuments, including the step pyramid, are in North Sakkara which is where most tours stop. Memphis and Sakkara are only about 20 minutes apart so these two sites can easily be visited on the same tour.
