This is our second visit to Andechs. This time we biked there from Herrsching - about 4.5 km - uphill! The route was really lovely through a wood, partially on Tarmac and partially on a gravel type path. Really beautiful We didn't visit the church this time but it is worth a visit. Beer great - I had the beer... More

We went up the steep hill for the traditional beergarten, but got stuck halfway up the hill, cause there was a very nice restaurant with beergarten on the left hand side. The lovely beergarden behind the restaurant served excellent food and drinks with a georgious view..

I live in Abu Dhabi and was visiting a friend in Munich. We took the train to the end of the line and hiked up to the monastery on a cool, overcast day. Coming from the desert it was lush and refreshing, exactly what I needed. We got a bit lost, but arrived with no issues. On a nice autumn... More

Once you to hike up, stop for a beer and something to eat. The food is really good and so is the beer that is brewed there. Then continue on up the hill to the church. Beautiful Baroque style church. When in Bavaria a great place to spend an afternoon.

The hike, if you decide to walk, is a moderate hike (not strenuous but don't expect an easy stroll). It is only 6 km but, because monasteries in Europe were built on the highest points possible, there is a low grade incline all the way there. What this means is you work up an appetite with the hike, have some... More

We lived in the area for 4 years and this was always a favorite of ours. Great place to bring our overseas guests as well. Beautiful place and the schweinshaxen and obatzda can't be beat.

A must go. If you can walk, hike or bike to Andechs you should! Earn your weisse bier and brezen (pretzel) bigger than your face. Be sure to get the obazda soft cheese to dip your pretzel. We lived in Germany near Andechs and this is what we miss! Evenings sitting on the patio, overlooking the fields enjoying a bier... More

Nice walk to climb up to the church from the S-Bahn station. 4,5 km beautiful landscape on the road. The church is breath-taking both from inside and outside. There is a nice small shop beside the church with religious souvenirs. The viewpoint is great if the weather is clear you can see the mountains of the Alps.

We walked across the fields about 3 to 4 km to the kilos tears and it was well worth it not only for the food but also to visit the monastery and to climb the tower. You pay 1 euro to climb the tower and it's a must the views are great. Word of warning if they ring the bells... More
