Overview
More
The time span of almost a millennium represents the background of this castle. It was built in its present form at the beginning of the eighteenth century and in 1869 it became the property of the king Victor Emmanuel II of Italy, who chose him as one of his favourite hunting lodges. The visit includes the royal apartments on the main floor with the living room and the trophy gallery, an extraordinary tribute to the king's passion for hunting, here transformed into decorative art. Some teaching rooms were arranged on the ground floor to explore the history of the royal hunts in the Alps and the history of the castle, while the second floor rooms retrace the history of the Savoy dynasty in the twentieth century through the furniture and the portraits.

Definitely worth a visit. One of the residences of the Savoia royal family, used for the royal hunts in the Aosta Valley. Great guided tour!

The story behind the castle and the royal Italian family is very interesting. The explanation, unfortunately, is in Italian and not English (if you don't speak Italian, hope to be the only person in the tour to get it in English). The garden below is...More

It is a castle that stood above on TOP of a hill. It seems old. It was very interesting to be honest. At least for those history lovers.

for five euro (full price) you can visit the small royal castle of Sarre, it is placed up to a hill with great view on Aosta and the whole valley. That is not the most unforgettable detail of the visit though, the two rooms plastered...More

This old (13th Cent.) Castle was rebuilt and turned into a Royal Hunting Lodge in the 1800s. The castle itself is impressive and in a scenic location, but the restoration of the rooms is what makes this worth a visit. The displays detail the history...More
