Best thing to do in Chiang Mai!
We really enjoyed this one...
We took the half-day tour. Our guide was super nice and spoke English very well. She kindly answered our many questions and took pictures of us with her camera. We fed and washed the elephants and they seemed to be very happy and playful. No chains or anything like that and indeed the elephants were a bit uncompliant sometimes, but still gentle and friendly.
Great luanch at the end.

Brace yourself for 1.5 hours drive from Chiang Mai in a red-car-like truck.
Pickup is from your hotel and so is the drop off.

We were a group of 4 people and booked a 1 day tour (stop to a traditional local market, elephant feeding, elephant mud spa and shower in the river, lunch, small trekking, stop at a waterfall in the jungle and finally normally a bamboo rafting activity). Advertised price for this tour was 2000 baths per person but you can ask for some discount. The Elephant place is great, of reasonable size (about 5 or 6 elephants in the camp) and people seems to love their job. This is a "no riding" tour, elephants were very well trained and treated with a lot of respect (obviously without any kind of violence). Feeding/mud spa/shower were amazing, lunch was very good and special clothes are provided. Trekking and waterfall were ok but under huge rain (we even saw small landslides). We were not able to do the bamboo rafting due to a recent flood so we were back in Chiang Mai one hour earlier than expected and received a 100 baths refund for that (so about 5% of the original price). Appart from this, I definitely recommand the place.

To start off - this is the best bang for your buck here in Thailand when it comes to anything with Elephants. The tour guide “Adam” is absolutely amazing. He is so kind and very knowledgeable on any questions you may have. His English is also very impressive so there won’t be any language barrier problems. Our experience was great! We would suggest this to anyone staying in Chiang Mai who would like to see elephants.

We booked a trip by Elphant Family Care because we wanted to visit an elephant care were they treat the elephants well. The flyer said : no ride, no hook, no chain.

But they brought us to a place were they do ride elephants! Also the elephants were chained and they usd the hook.

We said we didn't want to do it and the guide brought us to an other place were was just 1 elephant with only a very small space to live. We could wash and feed him. (We think this elephant will be rided on and chained normally too...) it was very disappointing.

Rafting was included (45 min) but the boat stopped in just 15 minutes...

We tried to get our money back, because we don't want to pay to a bad company and keep this bussiness a live. But it was very difficult and after a long time they give us a small part.

Don't go to this place!

For any travellers who have been before with this company it is not the same company these pictures do. Is not where the sanctuary is. Standards have dropped and they are not ethical with the elephants anymore. One elephant had a collar which they used to “lead the animals” (see the picture 1) to the water where they were forced to sit down. They also pulled on another elephants ears to lead them to the water there were men who were shouting at the elephants which didn’t seem right. We only spent around 45 minutes (and this is a generous estimate) but from that snapshot the five of us on the day trip UNANIMOUSLY agreed that this was not right and the elephants were not happy or well looked after. We then were taken to a village where we were encouraged to purchase items we didn’t want. At this point the whole group decided we wanted to go home. The tour guide called the tour manager who was very unhelpful wanting us to pay full price and insisting we finish the tour. The tour guide luckily said we were allowed to leave and we only paid half the money were expected to pay but honestly I’m unhappy I had to pay that much for an experience that should be ethical and enjoyable.

We booked through our hotel and had a fantastic day ! From the friendly hotel pick up to drop off the guide was very friendly and informative. There was only our family on the day which made it very personalized and not rushed. We fed and bathed two elephants and our guide told us all about them we then went to the waterfall, visited the karon hill tribe ( not long necks) had lunch which was fried rice followed by watermelon and was rather nice - this was included in the price. Finally we went rafting which our 9 year old son loved - this lasted approx 40 minutes. A fantastic day we loved it !!!

We were deciding between many farms but this won. The pick us up on time and we drove about an hour from Chiang Mai.
The guide was nice and helpful. At the farm we swam with elephants and the fed them. The 2 elephants were nice, sometimes a little bit spoilt, but it is propably because their are raised without chains, which is good.
After that we had great lunch and drove back to Chiang Mai.
Definitely recommend this family farm and hope they will
have soon baby elephant.

This was really the best experience ever! June our tour guide took us into his home village and it felt really heart warming. He had the biggest smile on his face the whole time and made the experience for us great! Elephants were healthy and happy. Waterfall was amazing. He ever took pictures of us the whole time and sent them to us!

Really annoyed at the previous 'bad' reviews. What was written appears totally wrong based on our recent experience on 23 August. Check the facebook page of the same name and look at the photos. Day after day of great photos and happy customers. We help keep these elephants safe from past bad practices and keep them fed.
The whole tour included rafting, seeing and feeding and washing the elephants, lunch and a visit to a mountain village. AWesome day
