The history of Brazil is built on social disparity and slavery was predominant for many years. This church was built by the slaves in their 'free time'. It is beautiful yet poor but you feel the passion and the pain still to these days. Worth a visit.

Builded in the 17th century this church was dedicated to the saint that protected the slaves. It is located in the historicla center of Tiradentes, within walking distance form the main square.

Its a very beautiful and quiet church. Better ask a guide to speak of the interesting tales about this church and its archtecture. Do not miss it. If u like taking pics walk around the place and one can find great spots.

This smallish church stands out both for its particular architecture, it's very interesting interior and it's history, as it was built in the off hours by local mine slaves that sneaked gold under their nails, etc to decorate its interior. I would suggest it as the stop prior to reaching the "official", lavish white man´s church up the hill

The church was built by African slaves brought to our country. Though not a religious person myself, I was moved by the history of the church (slaves building it at night, when they could), and also loved to see black saint icons. A small church with such a background moves me more than a big one full of gold...

All churches of Tiradentes are worth paying a visit. This is no exception, the ceilings and altars are special.
