Rugova Canyon is one of Europe’s longest and deepest canyons.
It’s located in the northern part of Kosovo near the city of Peja. They act as a natural border between Kosovo and Montenegro. Many activities can be done there like riding zip line between the mountains and enjoying a small waterfall on the way to Peja.

Meandering across europe in our Moskvich estate with small trailer we somehow ended up in Pec. Camped overnight in city centre with a squeky waterwheel !!
\The whole town was dug up, laying pipes of some sort so we did not cross back across town to fill up with petrol at only etrol we saw.We headed north having no information apart from michelin map
Rugova road was mainly gravel with no barriers, tunnel was there but NO developement at all. We eventually passed the village before climbing over the Cukor pass. There was a hut selling food on the top.By this time we were short of fuel , so coasted down for 3/4 hour!! till first petrol in montenegro
Such a stunning place, totally unexpected, no traffic and being before the war such a friendly place WE did 4000 miles in total but this place was our favourite day this trip was in 1978

Rugova Canyon is certainly a must visit if you are in Peja or in Kosovo. There's a narrow winding road that goes through the canyon and you can get a bus (going to Boge) or take a taxi for a day trip. Beautiful waterfalls, zip lines, huge deep gorge walls, even sandy beaches by the river, all are possible here. There are several restaurants and places to eat and relax as well.

Rugova Canyon is definitely worth a visit. There are beautiful mountains, rivers with crystal clear water, beautiful flora. Definitely recommend to stay there for some time.
Only bad thing is that the road that goes through Rugova Canyon and goes all the way to Montenegro doesn't have an international border, so it's not really possible/adviced to cross the borders there.

The road starts in Peja (Peć, Pejë) and slowly winds up the mountain. Really nice place for a day trip. Preferably by car, not saying it is impossible biking, but security wise considering the narrow road and sharp bends there is a greater risk by bike. The views are magnificent. There are plenty of restaurants along the way.

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful peaceful place. Makes you feel small and renewed to walk it. The air is fresh and crisp, the mountains are gorgeous, its relatively remote and untouched. An absolute must see. Makes for a gorgeous backdrop for photos, too.

Rugova Valley is located in the heart of Dukagjini, in north-western Kosovo. It covers an area of 32.000 hectares. Its highest peak is Coursed Mountain, with an altitude of 2560 meters.
Among several characteristics that distinguish this valley, following are the most important ones
-Bistrica River, which passes throughout 12 kilometers of the valley
-Waterfalls that fall from a height of 30 meters
-Two lakes at an altitude of 1 800 meters above sea level and
-A number of caves
Rugova Valley is considered as an ideal place to spend a day or a couple of days, when you need to relax and get away from the daily routine and dynamic life in the city. It is a quiet preserved and unexplored region, and this offers a unique entertainment opportunity for the lovers of eco and rural tourism.

And I'm not lying. Have a ride for 30 km paved road ( sometimes good, sometimes very good ). If you're driving, stop to take in the views. The road is curving all the way, from right to left and from left to right, up and down...every time another sight. At the Hotel "Magra Austria", the asphalt stops.
There are lot of possibilities of hiking and climbing.
Amazing sights !
There is plenty of accommodations and restaurants, but anyway, don't come here without reservation during the tourist season ( 15.07 - 01.09.) and without snow chains between 15.10 and 15.04. As far as I checked, there is no Wi-Fi.

Very beautiful and impressive Canyon. Visited it with Top Balkan Tours. I will definitively come back to do more activities such as the Via Ferrata, the Zipline and Hiking.

It is a beautiful canyon with very nice waterfalls, interesting tunnels on (in) the road, zipling and via ferrata activities, "hippy land" and lots of other things. Could spend there several days, really great environment

Hi, I'm going to Peja/Pec in summer - is there any public transport from the town to Rugova Canyon? I'm thinking about some day tour(s) fro Peja, but I have no idea about the distances/buses etc.
I'd be grateful for informations!
