Apollonia was founded in 6th century BC by Greeks from Corfu and Corinth on a site occupied by Illyrian tribes. It was considered the most important of the several classical towns known as Apollonia. It flourished in the Roman period but began to decline in the 3rd century AD when its harbor started silting up as a result of an... More

Very nice walking tour of a historic site. Great views in many directions of the surrounding countryside. The trail leads you to a restaurant on top of a hill (not the one by the entrance). It was lunch time so we stopped in. We both had pork and a salad and white wine. I would put the pork as some... More

The park itself is quite large allowing to walk not just to see sights but also for pleasure. There are a lot of sign around each sight so you have a good understanding of what you look at. They even created pictures how what everything looked like. We saw a turtle! Good hunting.

It is worth a visit. The park is big and the ticket is cheap. With one ticket you can visit the museum the church and the park.

Beautiful archaeological park where there is still digging going on by a joint team of French and Albanian archaeologists. The ancient ruins are beautiful ,also not to miss is the XII th century monastery and the small museum.

This year in july we (me and my wife) spent our summer holiday in Albania. Travelling south from Duress to Csamil we heard about Apollonia, the ruins of an ancient city near Fier, an albanian town situated on the western part of the country, close to the seashore of Adriatica. Entering Fier we rapidly found an arrow on the main... More

A nicely laid out park. We came later, around 6pm, and didn't see any ticket sellers for the archeological park. However, a man without park ID and without official tickets kept insisting in Albanian that we pay him 500 leke each. We didn't and he seemed to let us go. The park itself is compact enough to see the theatre,... More

We went to both Apollina and Butrint on back to back days while driving south. Apollina was much smaller but very impressive. Appolina was a good stopping point on our drive from Tirana to Gjirokaster.

We had sunny day. The road from city to this spot is in bed condition. The area was full of schoolchildren. The history is amazing but it is visible, that there was a lot of recent improvement, which spoil the magic moment. Anyway I liked it.
