Wonderful place. Upon arrival you are immediately greeted by an antique tank to make you understand what you are going to visit. The wait is zero, the staff very kind.
But now let's talk about the bunker itself.
At first you can choose whether to use the audio guide or not, if you prefer to have it you will have the opportunity to choose the character who will accompany you on this adventure and who will explain everything. Really original. The bunker is amazing, the atmosphere is crazy and the rooms are well maintained. There are authentic antiques that you can even touch!!! You can understand the story very well thanks to both the audio guide and the various texts found. But now enough spoilers, go see for yourself!!!
Fantastic experience🔝🔝

Pleasant and unmissable trip if you are in the area. We are a family of 4, we took an Audio Guide and it made it all very engaging for the boys too. It makes you understand the reality and mood of these places that are part of our history. Super recommended

We were on bikes and its only a 5 minute ride from town. Its still only partly developed and doesn't seem to get many tourists which is a shame as it has a fascinating history and excellent narrative displays. I am sure there are more rooms than are open but it was still a great trip and well worth it.

Definitely the visit is fascinating and instructive and the place very nice. Useful captions and illustrations.
Suitable for all ages
Unfortunately some concerns arise from the impossibility to pay by credit card and the failure to issue any form of ticket
Also, unlike many other reviews, we did not have any interaction with the staff (a young boy) and we were not told anything about the audio guide (was it included in the ticket price?... quite expensive, anyway).

The bunker in Dobbiaco is one of the few remaining bunkers of the Toblach defense line. It is well-preserved, with a museum inside. Rooms, corridors, artifacts, WCs, photos, escape exit...

The facts:3,800 m³ of concrete, 550 truckloads, 10 meters below the earth, 5–8 meters thick walls, 30 poor souls in the garrison.

The Alpine Wall was started by fearful Italian Mussolini socialists. Thousands of bunkers were built. They began fortifying against France in 1934, continued in 1935 by building concrete fortifications on the border with the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and after 1938, against the new border with Austria (united Deutsches Reich).
Recent history has seen a few major fortifications – from Hadrian's Wall and the Great Wall of China to the Maginot Line and Surovikin Line. These man-made structures have had a huge impact on our culture, no matter how successful their use was. They are also major tourist attractions. So let's take a closer look at the Alpine Wall as it stands today.

The bunker is situated close to the road – about 300 meters away – but it blends into the landscape, so you need to know where to look for the road sign. A Sherman tank is exhibited right outside; you wouldn’t miss it. However, in earlier times, the bunker was camouflaged to look like just another hill. Only by going inside can you truly appreciate the engineering effort involved in creating an artificial hide within a hill. It's worth investigating, believe me.

The local population called the entire project the "don't-trust-you" line. The Germans sent spies to map the bunkers and the relatively safe passages between them. Actually, when looking at the timely map of the fortifications, I doubt there were good chances for any troops to pass through freely, except for smaller groups and at night. There were hundreds of bunkers around.

Trench warfare – and bunkers as a major part of it – was essential in WWI, then labeled outdated with the blitzkriegs of the 1980s–2000s (from the Falklands War to Operation Desert Storm, etc.). After WWII, since Austria was not part of NATO, there was a threat of Soviet invasion through it Alpes, and the bunkers were still kept on duty till early 1990s. Nowadays, the trench warfare has returned with the realities of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and, to some extent, with the Gaza-Hamas fortifications. So it's real! I mean, you can touch and feel the realm of both the past and present militarium.

The museum also details the “troubles” in South Tyrol in the 1960s, when locals felt they were living in an occupied state (by the Italians). There were thousands of blown-up power pylons, massive arrests, and propaganda from both sides. They called it the "Years of the Bombs." Now, it's safe, and you might even find a kindergarten right on top of the bunker hill.

I was on a bicycle trip, kind of tired, but it took some 20 minutes to get full immersion into the history of the area – via the Bunker. You can explore it longer but getting there is already vital.

Enjoy your trip!

One of the many bunkers which can be found in this area- extremely interesting from a historical point of view. Constructed during the thirties by Mussolini but used principally as front line defense in the event of an invasion during the Cold War - to think that these bunkers were in use until the nineties really brings home how seriously such a threat was- interesting to read that it was the Stasi who mostly spied on these bunkers ... dressed up,as tourists

A beautiful experience, an opportunity to learn more about unknown historical places. The visit is accompanied by the stories of Paul, owner of the bunker, who tells the story with great passion.
