We stayed in a lovely apartment overlooking the beach. A home from home. A lovely place, cobbled Streets, very hilly. Close to main surf spots. Beautiful beach, expensive for water activities. Lovely restaurant on beach. Church near beach, evening mass preferable as too hot in day time. Great surfing, they collect near to residence, price reduced by 10 euro after 5 days of surfing, my son learnt a lot. Freezing water, it is the Atlantic. Rock climbing great, children loved and we manved to do it. They accommodate all levels. Uber ap from UK worked there, which was great, as bus was hourly ( cheaper than bus as 4 of us) Lovely walks great spot, will go again.

    Perfection!!!
This little village is amazing! Such a perfect beach, perfectly equipped town with just the right amount of tourist to locals! Every single cafe or restaurant serves the most excellent food! Everything is reasonably priced. People are friendly and the scenery is absolutely perfect! I’ve fallen in love with this place xx

    Breaks by the breakers
Our favorite beach front bar/restaurant. A great place to relax in the sun and wave back at the sea. Great staff but overwhelmed at times this is a very popular spot and there is competition for the best spots. Get there before 11.30 am to be sure of a seat. We go here almost daily.

    Perfect Luz!
A pretty little village by Algarve's turquoise waters. It has a beautiful, perfectly sized beach with plenty of nice cafes and restaurants around. There's quite a few hiking trails and limitless sports to choose from including golf, tennis and, of course, surfing. If you are looking for culture or just to party the night way you can head over to the nearest city -- Gorgeous, old Lagos which is just a stone's throw away (a 5-minute drive).

    Always a favourite
Always a favourite beach to visit. Absolutely perfectly safe for swimming. Excellent for families with young children too. Plenty of restaurants serving great lunches, all more or less priced the same but quite reasonable, so not too expensive. June is a great time to visit, calm seas and not too crowded. It gets busy in July and August and the sea can also get quite rough but great for body boarders.

A lovely quiet place to stay with some excellent restaurants. Not a lot there though apart from a very nice beach. We went early July and please be aware that in the evening it can be very windy and a jacket or cardigan is definitely needed

We are home this evening because all the bars are closed. 9:30pm. Restaurants say you have to prebook so we wonder around every evening to try to get something to eat. Hundreds of empty tired and derelict looking properties. No SHOPS!!!. Few bars. The whole resort needs a good scrub. Woukd NEVER return...

We enjoyed Luz very much however, if you want to do more than sit around or walk the streets and beach, this is not the place to go in winter. The village is dead. It has a great number of restaurants and cafes but most are closed anytime between New Years and as long as March or April. There us absolutely no shopping other than the 2 grocery stores.

I have been to Portugal and Europe countless times. Let me sum Praia De Luz up as follows. 1) hasn’t gotten over the terribly sad Maddy travesty. (We stayed 100 meters from the Ocean club) 2) it’s dirty and full of weeds 3) there are sod all restaurants and you are damn lucky to get a seat 4) it’s creepy, soulless and has strange men all around ( I had two youngish kids with me and they even commented about it) 5) it’s run down and feels like a council estate in parts 6) the prices are high in restaurants and local supermarkets 7) it’s small and limited with very little to do 8) the beach is fabulous (one of the best ). Saying all that it’s like a haunted town and to be avoided . Poor Maddy has left her scar on the place and it can’t escape the past.

Too packed in summer, main advantage is the access to watersports pedalos etc. Impossible to park nearby in summer. Much nicer beaches nearby eg burgau, cabanhas velhas, boca rio.

Such a lovely, sandy beach with beautiful views and impressive cliffs! Could easily spend a whole day of your holiday here as there are plenty of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants in the surrounding area making it a great day out. Although the sea was a bit cold, it was very clear and there was no seaweed washing up onto the shore. Would highly recommend and definitely visit again myself.

Memories galore this holds, lived in and around this area many years ago. No one left who knows these days. Lovely to see so many Portuguese on holiday here especially on the beach. Not so many Germans, Swedes, Dutch, Brits but still there though.
Casa Tulipa was the Dutchman Tom Gomens home. Opposite the Col. & Mrs. Vickers home. Villa Vanessa (Lloyd) was the lady who rents were paid too just down from the Oxford Bar (then became the Duke of Holland)
Quita Mia was made by the Durrants (Darry Durrant and his wife) Homer their dog. Stayed there in three of their properties in the late ‘70’s.
‘Luz Bay Club’ as was has gone now it was THE place! Now a mere shadow of its former self even the sign is lopsided!
Baia da Luz is number 1 now, complete new development and buildings in what was a field across the road from it.
Everyone climbs up to the monument now too! Path now so well worn you can get there in 15 minor less!!
Many changes many differences.
Fields have houses in a motor way now means less than 60 minutes from Faro not 2 plus hours!!!

This is our second visit to Praia da Luz and again we were thoroughly captivated by this wonderful resort. The scenery is beautiful, the beach is lovely and there is a multitude of first class eateries and restaurants to choose from. We hired a villa on the outskirts of town and were thrilled by the location. The people of the town are friendly and helpful and we will have no hesitation returning for a third visit as and when we find the time.

A wonderful relaxing day to finish off a mini break to Porto. We jumped on the No 1 tram to as far as it went. Had a wander to the light house, did some dolphin spotting and wandered along the coastline road. Not very inspiring (or attractive) and was wondering what we’d done! Then we saw this hip-happening beach restaurant and bar where we settled down for the afternoon. Wonderful drinks (white sangria very recommended!), friendly staff (attentive but no pressure to eat/drink more). Had a great afternoon in the sun! If you come this far out of Porto make sure this restaurant is on your list!
