RSPB Loch Garten Osprey Centre sits amidst the stunning Caledonian...

RSPB Loch Garten Osprey Centre sits amidst the stunning Caledonian pineforest, just a short walk from the shores of beautiful Loch Garten. The centre is open every day from April 1 to the first weekend in September, though the rest of the reserve is open all year round. It opens at 10am till 6.00pm, and last entry is at 5.00pm. There is a viewing area in the centre, with binoculars and telescopes to view the ospreys and other wildlife, plus live hi-definition CCTV pictures to give really good close up views of the birds on the nest. Red squirrels can often be seen on our feeders and a large array of small birds visit too. There are always knowledgeable and friendly staff and volunteers on hand to help you make the most of your visit and presentations on the previous year's osprey season are also given. There are activities and games for children both in the centre and on the walk up from the car park. The Osprey Centre shop stocks binoculars and telescopes, gifts, toys, cards, hot and cold drinks, ice creams and snacks. There are picnic benches and garden benches outside if the weather allows! Two beautiful woodland walks take you through magnificent pine forest to tranquil Loch Garten and Loch Mallachie - one accessed from the Osprey Centre car park and the other from the nearby Loch Mallachie car park.

Had a wonderful trip to see the Ospreys and were blessed with EJ feeding her 2 newly hatched chicks a fine trout and proud Dad watching from a nearby tree having a rest from feeding duties. The staff were friendly, helpful and full of interesting info on the birds of the area. There was a binocular event and due to... More

So lovely to come back here and see chicks in the nest. The small birdwatching area is really well set up. There are loads of static binoculars set up at every conceivable height and even wooden boxes available so little ones can use them. The talk is informative and helpful. The staff and volunteers are really friendly and knowledgeable. Some... More

The Osprey Centre is set in the woods near the village of Boat of Garten. We took the B970 road north from Aviemore, and it was a pleasant 20 minute rural drive. The Osprey viewing building is a short wooded walk from the ticket window at the parking lot, and although the nest itself is a fair distance away, the... More

Wonderful visit to the Loch Garten Nature Reserve to witness some wonderful footage of the local residential Ospreys. The warm welcome you receive as soon as you walk into the hut is pleasant and from there on in it was very formal and informative, I would like to make special note to the two guides Margaret and Fergus who never... We are not really into bird watching but knowing that the Osprey pair had returned, it seemed the thing to do. So glad we did as we saw an abundance of wild birds at close quarters including a crested tit and a woodpecker that we would not otherwise have seen. The Ospreys were nesting and already had one egg with... More

This is beautifully located in forest and heather and there are views over the loch where you may glimpse osprey raising their young or fishing. Excellent visitor centre. Great opportunities to watch all kinds of birds feeding and the red squirrels.

Almost drove passed as the signposting could be better. We were with my less mobile elderly mother but the reception staff offered us the use of their wheelchair which was ideal as the centre for viewing the Ospreys is a bit of a walk from the car park. The staff are very informative and the various binoculars enable a close... More

The cameras give a very good view of the nest. There are binoculars set up for you to look through as well. We saw the female sitting on the next with her 2 young, the male returned with a fish for her to feed the chicks with. The staff there are excellent, giving you a very good commentary on what...
