Visited 14/09/2024.
Church visited as part of an orienteering race with the local canoe school. It is quite majestic and gothic sounding and it suffers the domination of the nearby Vézelay Cathedral but it is still worth a visit. Started in 1235, it was completed 200 years later. The statues and sculptures are quite numerous, the interior is large and clean, the altar is small but original especially with the cavity and the passage behind what is unusual.

After visiting Vézelay, it is worth making a small detour to Saint-Père to discover this church dedicated to a Virgin Mary, Burgundy Gothic style, built between the 13th and 15th centuries. The trilobed portal is surprising and magnificent sculptures adorn the facade above the porch. The interior is very relaxing, without the imposing side of Vézelay.

Merci beacoup for the free offered concert tonight. Nice church in a small village. We enjoyed the stay including all the surroundings (bakery, river/ canoying, goat cheese production, etc

The last thing you expect to see in a small place like Saint-Pere is a church like this. It’s well worth dropping by if you are out and about near Vezelay.

Located in the little town of Saint-Pere, the Notre-Dame church is a fine example of Gothic Architecture. It was constructed from the 12th to 15th century and retains some older pieces of furniture (alter, baptismal).
This church is undergoing restoration and hopefully it is not too late. The day we visited, it was raining and you could not tell if you were inside or outside, the roof was leaking so badly. The interior of the church is dank, and the statuary is being affected.
