Nice free site

Small place easily accessible by bus from Inverness. Some nice shops and cafe in the village and the cathedral is a lovely open space and a free site

I like these kind of things, find them infinitely interesting. lovely old building, would have been spectacular in its day. Interesting bit of history, worth a visit!

Wow what a beautiful building this has once been. The history here can be felt as you walk around and feel the vibes here. This has been an immensely important religious place many years ago and the remains are wonderfully preserved, the signage boards are good. Fortrose itself has been a very important place in the church history of Scotland... More

This is a beautiful drive from Inverness and a short one. There is free parking right at the entrance to the cathedral. Fortrose Cathedral was an important church before the Scottish reformation and Mary Queen of Scots visited here. A great Cathedral although the original was even larger. Once the home of 21 Canons and 12 Vicars and Mary Queen of Scots apparently spent a week here in 1564. Cromwell and his army are supposedly stripped the Cathedral and built a fort in Inverness. It still has a sandstone font and the adjacent smaller building became the Burgh's council... More

Stopped of here after going to see the dolphins at chanonry point. Nice historical site with good interpretation.

Not a huge amount to see but passed a nice 15 mins, great for a quick picnic if you gave children as there is ample running space
