Very nice place to visit. The buildings are very well looked after, the square is full of bars and restaurants to sit down, relax and appreciate the architecture.
The river and its clear and colourful water is worth some photos.

Beautiful town. It has a really nice atmosphere and a nice stop for having lunch or coffee. The bridge and the houses along are very picturesque and the water is beautiful with it turquoise color

Very nice and atmospheric old town. Traces of Longobardo culture everywhere. Beautiful bridge, nice small winding alleys and a lovely central square. Very nice for a day stop.

Ignore the reviews that say Cividale is not a place for children. If you want the world to cater to your children, go to Disney World. If you want your children to engage with the world -- play in a river, hike outside of town, play futbal in the piazza, learn to appreciate art and history with a 1 hour visit to a museum, be immersed in a new culture - then Cividale is your place.

I just loved the historic centre of Cividale! It's full of longobard/early middle-ages architecture. Piazza Paolo Diacono with the Caffe Longobardo is one of my favourite places, and I also loved the Tempietto Longobardo and the whole complex that surrounds it.

A lovely oldie world charm, a wonderful village/town with fine sense of history, some restoration work being done, I should imagine it may be finished about the same time as Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia.

Spent a few days here and this well maintained and attractive town certainly deserves the Unesco World Heritage award. Worth a visit if you are in the Udine area but not a fortune to do.

Worth a visit of the old town, with a painted cathedral, an interesting ipogeo, a wonderfully decorated middle age Oratorio, a bridge on an incredibly green and transparent river in which you can see fishes swimming from above.

We came here as we wanted to discover more about towns and cities who have been close to the Italian border and, by being so, being melting pot of cultures, like Trieste.

Walking through the village - borgo - will bring you back to 800 years ago and I would highly suggest to wonder around, to sit and drink something, to talk to locals if you can. Enjoy the pace, the landscape and the peace of this place. Even just by stopping in one of the coffee shops/restaurants and looking at the buildings surrounding you, will make you think and wonder how it is possible that so many years of different invasions/dominations brought not just destruction but also beauty built on previous ruins.

Something worth mentioning here is that you will find museums and art focusing on the Lombard Kingdom: one of the few places in Italy where you can have a good glimpse at their culture!

Udine may not have all the loveliness one expects from an Italian city, but never fear; a 20 minute train ride gets you away to Cividale, which has a lovely town center bordering a beautiful river, and the feel one expects when exploring an off-the-radar Italian town. Be sure not to miss the Devil's Bridge, and if you can, take a dip into the Natisone River running below it.
