About
Thorong La Pass is the climax point of the Annapurna Circuit at 5,416 meters altitude and one of the hardest treks on the Annapurna circuit. At this altitude, there is only half of the oxygen available at sea level. This basically means that every step you take feels like you just ran a marathon.

The trek before Thorong La (means pass) is just beautiful, however, after the pass it’s plain desert-slanting-walk of 6/7 hours with almost no variation in the surrounding or view. It’s really hard and slow turtle walk near the pass itself, from the highcamp, but what can you expect at 5450meters (Meters not feet, lol)
Nevertheless, it’s a wonderful sense of achievement and I would do it again. I especially liked spending the day at the high camp restaurant amongst the mountains with wonderful views. I spent a night each at high amp and low camp both. The Wind Horses at low Basecamp is pretty cool place to hang out. The two weeks time is worth the trip for this out of the modern world experience. I loved it.

More of an achievment than a reward. No nice views, just icy chilling winds and sand colored stones. I won't hike that pass again.

I have just hiked down from the pass to Muktinath and there are a number emergency shelters placed there for the safety of hikers. These are being used by hikers as toilets which beggars belief after the number of lives lost a few years ago in a storm
