On Hwy #3 just outside Dunnville. "Muddy" is a nice place to stop and marvel at the skilled workmanship. A local artists ( cannot remember his name). Take some pics. He's massive.
Just up the road a bit is the sign welcoming you to town, it's nice and right in front of the graveyard. We found that funny.

Everybody like the Mudcat Statue.
The Muddy is a form of channel catfish and is recognized.
Here due to its longstanding association with Duvnille.
The Muddy the Mudcat Statue is huge and you cannot misi t!

We were in this are driving back to Toronto after a day in the country and decided to see Muddy on the way. I live not too far from Hayward WI where there is a huge Muskie and a huge Crappy in Northern MN, so I wanted a picture with Muddy to add to the collection. Sadly there really isn't a place to park, you can just pull over to the side of the road. My hubby slowed down a little but my photo was still a bit blurry. I was so sad, but I will scrapbook it and a nice clear photo from the web, what is a vacation without a few of those oops moments?

So, the reality is that there is this GIGANTIC mudcat bottom dwelling fish statue that represents a city...why a bottom dwelling unappetizing fish is used to represent this town, the short answer, it was grandfathered in many years ago.
The animal of the county that is supposed to be the significant trademark was the Great Blue Heron, as you see in the trademark of Haldimand County. Dunnville in particular though plays on Muddy and the Mudcat-esque buisness names and local hockey team.
It is not something I really think you NEED to see in your life but certainyl something to stop by and get a glimpse of if passing through Dunnville. It is also in a very strange location...space is limited because well, you don't want to tear up green area (something I do love about small town life, greenery is key).
A nice place to picnic or have a couple brews on a warm summer night. Don't mind the cemetery just down the road either...

I've posed with these kinds of statues from Shediac NB to Wawa ON and this is one of the best. As you come into town from the west it jumps out at you. With all the little canals around I can see why this is the town mascot.

If you love to get a collection of photos at different town/cities and their mascots/statues, here is another one to add to your list.
Like the Snowman at Beardmore, the goose at Wawa, the big nickel at Sudbury, spaceship at Vulcan, perogie at Glendon, this Mudcat can be your "memory" photo of your visit to Dunnville.

If you're in the area, you have to visit Muddy! Nice little trails in the surrounding park for a nice walk as well. Great photo op!

We found this by accident while driving in and around Dunnville. It is located in a park, and is interesting to make a quick stop to take a look at it.
