Visiting the castle

The tour in the castle was surprisingly fun. Espacialy with children. The tour is not that long. The children loved to climb the tower.

Nice old castle with a lot of history. Spend a few hours to see it all and you know more about life in the old days.

A castle on a hilltop like in a fairytale. I cycled from Enschede railway station just across the border in the Netherlands on an OV-fiets on a very cold Sunday afternoon. Cycling along snow covered fields and forests, on icy roads under a blue sky you get an idea of the economic foundation of the Münsterland region, once ruled by... More

The history of the castle goes back to the XI. century, situated on a hill, with big walls and towers around it. There is an old chapel inside, open for visit. Very nice place, if you are in Bentheim, definitely worth a visit.

This castle is very impressive, we visited in autumn and it was a nice day. The castle looked spectacular with views in which you could see the whole city. The castle had an economic basis in agriculture and forestry. There is a significant amount of history for this region at this castle and it has a cool diagram which tells... More

Burg Bentheim is an impressive castle, built from the well-known Bentheimer stone, which I think is directly underneath (at least the sandstone museum is). The Burg is situated on a hill ridge, with high defensive walls and towers. Inside one finds an old chapel with a Christ as king (from before the plague, which turned the image into Christ as... The castle is lovely and the place is amazing for a walk, we visited in autumn and the colors of the leaves made everything look magical. I recommend that you allow at least 1 - 1.30 hrs for visiting the castle, then another 2 hrs or so for seeing the park and the surroundings, and for having a coffee in... More

Just across on Germany, from the Dutch border, a magnificent castle perched high in the town, above the flat local area.

Still partly occupied by owner, the part you can visit shows the well decorated habitable rooms which are well decorated, what is amazing are the windows please note the hand painted and etched wondows which are not very common in castles, the glass is old glass full of airbulbs.
