We had a houseboat rental with deposit for late August 2021. They informed us that they are no longer in business and provided a refund.
So sad. We managed to get a rental at RR Houseboats.

NO LONGER IN BUSINESS.

April 2021 - got a phone call that our reservation for upcoming summer was cancelled. We had rented from them previously and it was a great operation.

Wonderful and unique experience

My wife and I had never been on a houseboat before and were very excited to have the experience. We were not disappointed! The area was beautiful and the boat had everything we needed. We really enjoyed docking at the Lovesick Lock and watching the sunset. Jill and Frank were super helpful and very kind. We would not hesitate recommending this adventure to anyone.

A long weekend differant from any other
Oct. 2020
I dont know where to start, this was an amazing adventure! My wife and some good friends took out a 6 sleeper ( boat 17) this past weekend for 3 nights.

We moored up to an differant island each night.

Can not say enough about how happy we are with Happy Days.

Boat was clean. I mean super clean. Everything is in good running condition.

Training is adequate. All staff who work for Happy Days are there to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Beds were a little short, but that's to be expected. We may upgrade to a larger boat next time.

You do have other choices of Houseboat rental in the Kawartha region, but it comes down to , you get what you pay for.

You wont go wrong with Happy Days.

Fantastic maiden voyage:)
Aug. 2020 • Family
We just got back home today from a 4 night rental of the 10 sleeper houseboat from Happy Days. The boat had a full kitchen, bathroom, and plenty of space for our family if 7. The kids really enjoyed the slide off the back of the boat as well.
We can’t say enough about the quality of service and helpfulness of the Happy Days staff and crew. Orientation was quick and smooth, and since we finished that early enough we were able to get away on Monday still and get to Burnt Island before dark.
Every day and every night was a new adventure, and being able to stay on quiet, secluded islands was perfect for our early rising, sometimes rambunctious family.
I am very much a rookie at boating. Driving the boat in general was pretty easy in the wide open spaces, and the training provided by Happy Days was sufficient to keep us aware of the rules of navigation. However, navigating the locks seems to be a skill that can only be really learned by “trial by fire”. This is where teamwork of the crew becomes essential. It was a bit stressful, but other boaters and the Parks Canada employees were all very helpful in helping us to learn a bit more at each lock.
We had a great first time experience with house-boating, we are already discussing the possibility of doing this again.
Happy Days was a great company to deal with, we highly recommend their boats and services to anyone looking to have a house-boat experience.

Bad Odour!
Jul. 2020
Six of us, all adults, rented the 10 Sleeper Houseboat for a week (July 10 to 17). While the weather was great and the scenery wonderful the houseboat did not meet expectations.

The principle problem was the horrible smell that came from the head (i.e., marine toilet) every time it was flushed. The smell was overwhelming and spread to the entire rear half of the boat, persisting for several minutes.

I know something about boats and this is a preventable problem that results when the holding tank is not properly flushed with fresh water after the sewage is pumped out. This pump and flush procedure is standard practice at every reputable marina.

When we returned the houseboat I raised this issue with Happy Days and they acknowledged it was a known problem. But they did not flush the holding tank on our houseboat; they only pumped out the sewage. So the people getting the boat next would have the same problem.

For me this is unacceptable and I would not rent again from Happy Days. Anyone who does rent from them should check the head before they depart the dock. (Something we did not do.) A check involves pressing down and holding down for several seconds the pedal that evacuates the toilet bowl. If no smell rises from the bowl during this procedure than everything is fine. If there is a smell problem request another boat.

We are sorry that your expectations were not met. I too, know something about boats. Boating is not a hobby or pastime. It is my life. I acknowledge that I don't know everything, but the Crew here at Happy Days are incredible. We all live the boating life. It is logical that urine and feces can be malodorous as it is the by-product of the body's waste. Bad odour in the bathroom is a known problem, not just on boats but in houses as well. There is an entire industry dedicated to products such as air fresheners, deodorizers, odour counteractants and ventilation systems. Bad odour can result from the types of food and beverages consumed, medications and medical conditions. Dehydration, or not using enough water, is also a problem, although instructions on proper usage of the head system are provided as part of the on board instruction. Temperature can also exacerbate bad odours and the average temperature while you were on board was 32C. It is regrettable that you did not contact us at the outset of the issue as your comfort and satisfaction is important to us. As part of our customer service, we have a dedicated phone number for guests on board and this contact information is provided 37 times in the Training Manual that is on board each houseboat. You mentioned reputable marinas and there are many located on the Trent Severn Waterway that could have provided you with the service you felt you required to remedy the bad odour. There are various permutations of on board waste management/head systems. For example, our houseboats consist of a simple holding tank system with a 300L capacity in which waste drops straight down into a holding tank (toilet, down pipe, holding tank). A cruiser or trawler generally has a vacuum system. This is a series of pipes, pumps, macerators, etc. which is more complex and prone to waste matter clogging the system and requiring a flush after pump out to ensure efficient evacuation. As a rural marina, we have different challenges and opportunities in the delivery of services and we are always striving to improve. Happy Days Houseboats remains committed to providing on board solutions so you have an epic houseboat experience.

Professional, accommodating, personable - They want you to be comfortable before you leave the dock. This was my fifth year renting either canal boats or houseboats and Andy provided the best training I have had. He made sure I was ready to go before releasing us. All in all fan-dam-tastic

We went Monday thur Friday on the 6 person Happy Days house boat. The boat was roomier than I imagined....
We were well trained by the Happy Days staff. However it is a little intimidating driving a large boat, with a small engine through, the locks and through several lakes that we were unfamiliar with. We went east through Buckhorn Lake, Lower Buckhorn, Lovesick Lake and to Stony Lake.. the first day... we moored on an uninhabited island on Stony Lake. It was beautiful...
Wolfe island Provincial Park is an unmanned park near Locke 30 (Lovesick Lake). Lots of room to run around and explore. We travelled back to pigeon Lake and through Bobcaygeon Locke to Sturgeon Lake. There are not many island to moor on in Sturgeon Lake, because the lake is so deep..
Bobcaygeon is a very busy Locke, and sometimes there is not a lot of room to wait in the Locke. It can be difficult to wait with a big boat in the narrow canals, with the currents moving and with the wind. You can call the Locke and see the status of the Locke if there are boats coming your direction or if you can drive straight in.
My family had a wonderful time swimming and siding off the slide and even jumping off the top of the boat. You can tan, while moving too. We enjoyed fishing as well. I recommend taking a kayak or paddle board to go up to the shore and explore. Even to look for places to moor and check for rocks in the water.
You will need a captain and a co-captain, and everyone on board must help, especially at the lockes. This trip will test your communication and collaboration. This is not the most relaxing vacation as someone will need to be driving the boat. We travelled at 5mph. It is easy to cruise but someone must be behind the wheel while travelling.
But we kept moving and saw a lot of the Trent-Severn.
The beds were small and very firm. I would recommend bringing a mattress pad.
The coffee is a percolator, take coarse grinds or a sieve with a coffee filter. Or just drink instant coffee, (tea or hot chocolate).
What an amazing trip! My family will never forget it.

Lovely way to explore the Trent Severn Waterway
Jul. 2019 • Family
We were a family of six from 3 generations. The houseboat we hired for a week was designed for 8, but in our opinion 6 is enough. The bedrooms were very small, but the rest of the boat had plenty of room. The double beds when made up in the cabin were head to head so adult couples would have to be very friendly, in our case children used these beds. We had a wheelchair for my wife which was useful off the boat, and for carrying the fresh water tank to the filling point, but it could not really be used on the boat due to narrow gangways.
The Kawarthas, and the Trent Severn waterway are very beautiful, and the ability to moor the boat at a remote spot on Big Island makes for a very enjoyable trip. The small town of Bobcaygeon is a short steam from the happy Days marina, and is also a pleasant spot to moor for the night. Plenty of supermarkets and shops.
The boat ahs a water slide which our grandchildren used and thoroughly enjoyed. The water is lovely and clean for swimming, so clean that it is pumped onto the boat for shower and washing up. The only downer, CAD 25 per day to take a dog on board seems excessive.

Best Way to Tour the Trent-Severn Waterway
Jul. 2019 • Family
Happy Days Houseboat Rentals (Happy Days) is family-owned and operated marina in the Kawartha region and home to the largest mooring of houseboats in Ontario. Established in 1978, the second-generation business has 17 houseboats in an array of sizes (6-sleeper, 8-sleeper, 10-sleeper, and 12-sleeper) available for rent. Happy Days also offers execcutive-style and luxury-style houseboats. Note that a Pleasure Craft Operator Card is not required to rent a Happy Days houseboat but is highly recommended. We rented the luxury-style houseboat (52 feet by 15 feet by 5 feet) for four nights at a cost of $4,750 (excluding tax and fuel). It had four private bedrooms (each with a double bed and storage), a sofa bed, a three-piece bathroom, a galley (fridge, stove, and sink) complete with cookware and dishware, a powder room, an entertainment system, a rooftop kitchen, a tanning deck, an outdoor shower, a propane fireplace, a furnace, a swim platform, a waterslide, a bimini roof on the top deck, and two barbecues. It also had upper and lower helm controls, navigation equipment (including a depth finder), a rear-view camera, and binoculars. The kids loved jumping off the swim platform and going down the slide! Check-in can start as early as 7:00 p.m. the day before the rental commences. Be sure to pack a flashlight, matches, lifejackets for children, a smartphone charger, towels, bedding, pillows, kitchen linens, personal hygiene produces, toilet paper, cleaning aids, garbage bags, a first aid kit, walking shoes, and any food/beverages you plan to consume. Training takes place just prior to leaving the marina. Pigeon Lake, where Happy Days operates, is on the Trent-Severn, a 386-kilometre waterway (44 locks in total) and National Historic Site stretching from the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay on Lake Huron. We made it as far upstream as Fenelon Falls and as far downstream as Lovesick. Note that a houseboat cruises at about 6.5 knots (12 kilometres per hour). Look for Happy Days at 5 Colony Road in Bobcaygeon. Jill and Frank Quast manage the business. Frank trained me on how to dock. Thank you, Frank, for your kindness and patience. Amenities at Happy Days include electrical hook-up, shower/washroom facilities, potable water, wireless Internet access, vehicle parking, a boat launch, waste services, a play structure for children, a picnic area, and free use of water toys (canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards) for renters. Houseboats are due back at Happy Days by 2:00 p.m. at the end of the rental period. Renters are responsible for all fuel consumed and any damage to the boat. Lockage was included in our rental fee. Be safe and stay off the water during inclement weather; houseboats are hard to navigate on windy days!
