Just returned from a 2 night stay. We had campsite 52 which said was long enough for a trailer up to 32 feet. This was true...providing you dont have slideouts! Our trailer was 29 feet with 1 slide and it juuuust squeezed between the trees. If we had any other slides we never would have fit. We couldnt even put out our awning. Our campsite had quite a bit of garbage when we arrived also. Its obvious the park is struggling. The one trail on the right of the park where we started out on had trees down all over and was very grown in.We didnt go far before we turned around. There wasnt even a sign up telling you where the trail was. The next day we went on the 7km trail and it was better but still it was obvious the trails could use some tlc. No hookups which wasn't a problem. Cant comment on bathrooms as we used our trailer. We did notice as youre driving into the park the trees are very grown in and scraping the sides of your camper and need to be trimmed back. Overall it wasnt horrible and we had a good time but would we ever make the trip back? Probably not.

The Mississagi is far off the path so has little traffic and not much funding I assume. It’s not well maintained at all but it’s backcountry so if you’re looking for wood chip trails head down to Blue Mtn. They don’t have maps available. Rough hiking through broken trees and brush, flooded paths, swamps, etc, makes for the experience. Went to one of the none maintained camp sites and had a great time. Be smart though as I have yet to see that much bear poo in a park before.

I grew up in Elliot Lake and moved to Toronto in 2002. Since that time, my wife and family have camped a lot in southern ontario provincial parks. They're all a disaster. Too crowded, too loud, too close to major highways (some campgrounds are a few feet away, seriously), and some are even too close to farm lands (you won't like what you smell). Worse, southern ontarians seem to have absolute disregard for others in the camp. They get drunk and scream and yell and play guitar and sing (terribly) at the top of their lungs until 3:00 AM, or until the park rangers come by and kick them out for being too loud. Whichever comes first.

Then you go to Mississaugi Park, and it's like all those things are completely non-existent. First, it's beautiful. Second, it's convenient. Third, the people there are courteous, respectful and considerate. It's never crowded. The scenery is beautiful. There's nothing better than playing some classic 60s and 70s rock (at a decent volume) on a portable stereo while sitting around the crackling campfire and looking up at the stars (which are the absolute best to view in Mississaugi), and not having to contend with inconsiderate camp neighbours. It's incredible. We're going back this year, now that my little niece is old enough to handle the 5 hour trip from T.O. to Elliot Lake, and I couldn't be happier. HERE WE COME!

Love this park, so sad it's closed. ( Writing this in February 2013, but last visited in August, 2012.) With so many of the parks in south-central Ontario jam-packed most of the summer, this was such a wonderful find. Was so worth the drive. Been camping there for the past 5 years or so, and not one bad thing to say about it. Sure, not all the services some may want in an park, but to me, that was part of the appeal. Just lots of nature, all around. Peace. Quiet. Loved the proximity to Elliot Lake and now where to camp in the area? Chutes? No comparison to Mississagi - if they had to close one or the another, in my opinion, should have been Chutes.....

We stayed at site 19 in Mississagi Provincial Park. I was initially disappointed by the ground cover (sand and gravel) and the slope of our site. But, we had more than enough room for our two tents (one for sleeping and one for dining) when all was said and done. Both were level enough that we were comfortable. The kids and dog had lots of room to run on the site even with our two large tents.
Many of the other sites were great. We'd like to try 16 and 20 if we get a chance to come back. I would not complain if we had to stay at 19 again. We had a lakeside campsite and it was awesome. Our site had a little sandy patch of shoreline (see photos) and it was perfect for the kids to play and chase minnows and for me to launch our canoe.
We would also consider the "walk in sites" (specifically site 1) although they are only a few meters from the parking area, unlike walk in's at some other provincial parks where we have stayed. Since none of the sites have power hookups, location is the big difference between these sites and the other sites that you might use for tenting.

We hiked a couple of the trails and enjoyed them a lot. We were not at all disappointed by the hiking opportunities. I can't wait to come back and do a backcountry trip with my boys!

The 2 beaches at the park were fair to good. The kids enjoyed the day use area beach although mom and dad were not as impressed. We all enjoyed the campground beach. It was a coarse sand/fine gravel beach and the sand/gravel continued a good distance into the lake. I just don't like muddy/weedy beaches and, even though it was no white sand paradise, the gravel was more than OK as far as I was concerned.

Elliot Lake is right on the park's doorstep, about 20-25 minutes drive, so if you want to go out for the day and take in some more "civilized" recreation, you can make a day of it in town.

We had a great time but showers and playground would make Mississagi an unbeatable destination for our family. Maybe if we can get enough visitors up there they'll be able to make an improvement or two!

If you are looking for a place that is beautiful and a little off the beaten path, with generous sites and wonderful neighbours, I think that you would be hard pressed to do better than Mississagi Park.

I usually get there once a year after Halfway Lake on the way to Timmins.. This is a very quite park and rather secluded ,, by mid summer the black flies are usually done and if your into nature walks , wildlife, and fishing it's going tobevery hard to beat...

We just finished a week of tent camping at Mississagi, the weather was perfect and the bugs were not bad at all. We were wanting a walk in site but #1 and #4 were already occupied so we opted for a quieter area. After driving through the main campground we decided #24 was the best open view of the lake, we stayed the night but decided to relocate the next day. While we loved being right on the lake at #24, the area was a little too busy for what we were wanting. We choose to take #16 for the remainder of the week, we were the only people in that area and our site was quite big (could easily fit 2-3 tents) we still had our own lake access, just not as open as #24. While the outhouses had sinks the water was under a boil water advisory (fine for washing hands but not for brushing teeth) However there are potable water stations throughout the campground. The toilet paper was good quality and the staff were great. The beaches may not be considered the best but the lake is beautiful for canoeing and we really enjoyed the hiking trails. Many of the sites are larger and more private then other provincial parks.

Absolutely beautiful place to camp. The lake was perfect for canoeing and swimming with kids. The campsite was very private as the sites are not open to each other aside from the driveway in and out. The bugs were pretty ugly but that is to be expected. It is a shame that there were so few people - yet it was great for us because we had the campsite pretty much all to ourselves mid-week. There were some campers that were not occupied during the work week.
The people that worked at the park were all quite welcoming and helpful.

I have to note that everyone in our group of 7 was impressed with the toilet paper. Not a big deal because we brought some but it does make for a little bit of extra comfort when camping.

I spent a week camping in this park in 2003 and in 2013 I was planning to camp there again, so I was quiet sadden when I heard the news that the park’s status was changed to non-operational. Fortunately, the city of Elliot Lake managed to work out a deal with the Ontario government to keep the park open. I was surprised to find plenty of campers in the park — something quite unusual for a park that supposedly did not have enough visitors to warrant its closure!

Even though we were planning to spend just one night in the park, we still wanted to get a nice campsite and spent an hour, driving on meandering roads before picking campsite no. 15. We set up the tent and talked to several people staying on adjacent campsites. Unlike in 20103, there were no black bears in the park in 2013—I still remember when 10 years ago a small black bear showed up around our tent, curiously watching us.

The park office had a number of interesting brochures and books (I bought one on Elliot Lake’s history). Even though we did not have the time to paddle, we drove to Elliot Lake and spent a few hours exploring it. It’s a lovely park and I am glad it is still open!
