We read about this planetarium and wanted to visit after being unable to visit the planetarium in Cusco, and it ended up being a complete highlight of the trip!! The guides were really knowledgeable and took their time to show us the different constellations and planets. We even got to see the rings of Saturn and the different colours of Jupiter. We’re now able to show our friends the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere - would definitely recommend!…

We went to the planetarium without any real expectations. The initial part was a basic light show showing the southern hemisphere’s star constellations. The best part was being able to look at the night sky through a number of telescopes. At 3600masl there was a clear sky with very little light pollution. The people running the event are very knowledgable and friendly. We went on an English session and was great. Thoroughly recommend this if you happen to be in Chivay and have a free evening (and clear skies) - even if your tour guide tells you it’s closed.…

Luis and Edgar were extremely knowledgeable guides, showing us constellations, systems, blue and red stars, Jupiter and Saturn- all incredibly clear. Amazing! Luis even helped us take a close up photo of the moon with our phone. Luis was clearly very knowledgable, answering all our questions in excellent English. The experience was very hospitable- we were offered blankets whilst we used the telescopes and a hot drink after the demonstration. …

Originally, I had no plans to do the Colca Canyon Tour and just wanted to stay in Arequipa. That changed when I found this gem on TA, I immediately booked the 2 Day Colca Canyon Tour just to come to this amazing Planetarium and Observatory. It’s about a 15 minute hike up from the Plaza but it’s well worth it. Their isolated location provides for an unobstructed view of the stars and they have 3 telescopes of varying strengths to observe our universe with. I was blown away when Luis and Edgar showed me Jupiter! The view was so clear that I could make out all of Jupiter’s lines and even see its 4 moons! They even show you Saturn and record a little video of it on your phone! The price for admission is 30 Soles which is fairly cheap for what you can see with Luis and Edgar. They know their constellations and space knowledge very well, and it shows in their explanations and enthusiasm to share their passions. If you can, drop by for a visit, check out the stars, learn about the constellations, meet a couple of great people, and DON’T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR CAMERA!…

The planetarium is a great! I had missed it my first trip to Colca and regret that. It’s a must-see and highlight of visiting the canyon. They have three powerful telescopes and seeing the planets in detail is breathtaking. It’s an incredible place to see the stars. Our children loved it and so educational. S/30 person is steep but we felt it worth it. We were there on the night of a new moon and the milky way view, even with the naked eye, was absolutely incredible with the low light pollution in the area. Please note the negative reviews are talking about a tourist trap at Casa Andina and note actual Chivay planetarium! The real place is open year round. We saw them accommodate 5 groups inside an hour. They’re friendly!…
