The ticket centre is a bit of a hike from the parking lot and then there is another hike to the bus which takes you to the site. The bus ride is also more than just around the block.
Anyway if you are into burial...More
This is an absolutely fascinating artifact of the neolithic period in Ireland. Knowth and Newgrange are burial mounds built in 3000 BC, predating both Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids. We understand that Neolithic burial mounds are common throughout Europe, but that these are the largest...More
The whole family loved it here. The organisation from the visitor centre was very good, with frequent shuttle buses. The guide was very friendly and engaging. The quality and scale of the site was astonishing.
Knowth is a quite interesting neolithic monument but you can just walk around the tombs, not going into them. Since they sold out the tickets every day, in summer, you'd better buy tickets in advance on internet or arrive early in the morning to queue...More
This site in fact reflects history of our species, us humans. Hence its very important to actually visit and see it. How people of Stone Age actually lived and what they were doing. The team that works in this place is amazing, they helped to...More
Newgrange and the Knowth, both are places that you have to visit at least once in your life. We’ve been there 5 times, and I can tell you, it doesn’t matter if you go in spring/summer/autumn/winter, it’s beautiful anyways, the lawn is always green, and...More
This visit is well organised. You go to Bru na Boinne visitor centre. It has a good cafe and exhibits and you can get a ticket for the guided tour. It is timed and the buses go on time with the exact number of seats....More
To get here you have to take the shuttle from the Bru na Boinne Visitor's Center. You need to use the GPS coordinates given on the website to get there; don't just put the site into your GPS -- it'll take you to the wrong...More
If you go to all the trouble of making it to Newgrange make sure you do this tour as well. Unlike Newgrange you do not to to the centre of the tomb but the huge stones on the outside are very much better decorated than...More

Hi, the tour at Knowth is one hour: 30 mins. with a guide, and then about 20 mins. on your own to explore before you return to the shuttle bus for the return to Br na Boinne Visitor Centre. Now having said that, one hour is not enough time because when you get to the visitor center, you are given a sticker with an entrance time on it. We were lucky. We got there at bout 2:00, and our tour started at 3:15, so there wasn't a huge gap between arrival and the start of the tour, but I imagine that at the height of summer that might not be the case. So, my advice is to get there early in the morning. If you get there after, 3:00, the tours might be booked up. To answer your question, then, give yourself three hours.
