Visited Newgrange and thought Dowth was just as cool! Fun to be able to walk around and see the rocks and then walk to the top of the Passage Tomb. Couldn't go inside and there is not a formal gate or anything but we had...More

Unlike Newgrange, this burial mound is not open to the public. you can walk up to it, and around and over it, but the chambers are closed off. Still worth a visit if in the area. Free admission to the site.

This is the third of the three passage tombs. It is free and has open access. You get to see what Newgrange and Knowth would have looked like before their excavation and reconstruction. Well worth a stop off!

hidden gem, hidden place, not far away from Newgrange, worth it to come here. entrance is for free, interesting history about this place and definitley worth to get on top of this place, where you get nice view to nearby area.

This lesser known site is one to add to your itinerary if you are in the area and visiting the more well known Knowth and Newgrange sites. On the day of my visit I was the only visitor.

Usual visitors go to the Newgrange/Knowth sites, but to get here you have to have your own transportation. There are few signs and it is definitely difficult to find. However, it is worth it in seeing what Knowth would look like if not reconstructed. Few...More

Our rental car was broken into at Dowth as well. In speaking with the neighbors in this area and the Garda (police) we learned break-ins like this are a pretty common occurrence at Dowth. If you do decide to park here do not leave anything...More

Do not park your car at the entrance to the Dowth site! We were on a walk to the site when a thief was breaking my rental car and stole my backpack. Neighbours said that this happens regularly, nearly every week. So park your car...More

We were somewhat taken aback when first we saw the site. Almost completely covered with plentiful furze bushes and the occasional tree, combined with the absence of visitors, it rested undisturbed in its pastoral setting. A few information signs explained that two passageways are within...More

Dowth is a real find just a few minutes drive from Newgrange and Drogheda. Everyone visits Newgrange and Knowth via the Bru na Boinne Visitors Centre, and rightly so, but Dowth is a delight too and very few visit it. It is a Passage Tomb...More
