"Burg Rheinstein" is nowadays a interesting museum with a long history. There is a restaurant for visitors and if you'd like to a special experience - there two beautiful apartments which can be booked for a overnight stay.

The castle "Burg Rheinstein" is located approx. 5 kilometers (approx. 3 miles) westward of Bingen, down the river Rhine, at the south entrance of the UNESCO Cultural Heritage of the Upper Middle-Rhine Valley ("Oberes Mittelrheintal"), face to face with the village of Assmannshausen. The castle was the symbol of the castle-reconstruction period in the 19th century, the so-called Romanticism, because of its impressive location, and also its eventful history had many highlights.

The Castle was very beautiful. It was nice that you can do the tour on your own as well as get a tour guide. It is not as large as some of the other castles but there is plenty to see. Plenty of stairs so make sure you have some energy, but well worth every step. Favorite room was the... More

This was the second Rhine castle we visited in a single spring day and definitely our favorite. The grounds and gardens were well kept and beautiful landscaping was everywhere. The well garden with the 100 year old grape vines was a favorite of the wife. Plenty of places to explore. My favorite room was the massive banquet and dining room.... More

The castle is a gem. Less impressive maybe than Burg Eltz but very romantic. We definitely recommend to buy tickets for the round tour which includes the chairlifts from and to Assmanshausen and Rudesheim. A boattrip across the Rhine will then bring you to this beautiful castle. Really enjoyable for both young and old.

This stop was the best choice of something to do during a short 3 day drive along the Rhine River. The castle was interesting and the view great. How did they cram so much living on a cliff? Don't miss the hand crafted details that could be easily overlooked. Even the wall paper isn't paper as it is all painted... More

Well preserved and interesting castle. Definitely worth the trip. The staff was very friendly, the food at the restaurant was also good.

This castle sits in the most amazing position right above the Rhine with an awesome view. There is also a lot to see and learn on the inside. Should definitely visit.

We spent a day driving up the Rhein, enjoying views of castles along the way. This one, situated across the river from the village of Assmannhausen where we were staying, is the only one that we visited. Park alongside the road and there's a steep path to walk up that would be pretty challenging for older people. We enjoyed the... More

This is one of my favorite castles. Small picturesque romantic castle. It is lovely to visit in the spring when the flowers are in full bloom but nice anytime of year.

Stopped here as part of a package tour. Our bus parked at the base of the castle. We walked up to the castle via a steep path of switchbacks that was flat and easy to climb. Some of the older folks had to take it show, but there were a few families with strollers who easily made the ascent. Once... More
