Amazing Views, and you can hike or take the Fenicular to almost the top. The Views were breathtaking! Take your time and explore all the different little paths. Wear comfortable shoes. Don't Miss This! I reccomend doing a tour van that also takes you to Simontown for Penguins and Hout Bay, as they are all busy places with limited parking.

The funicular takes you pretty close to the lighthouse but there are still quite a few steps to climb if you want to get to the lighthouse itself. The view from the lighthouse isn’t noticeably better than the one from the top of the funicular.

Fantastic for everyone ! The views are phenomenal and, on a good day, you can see where the two oceans meet. Hiking the old lighthouse keeper’s trail is a great way to experience a bit of the history of this site.

If you are visiting the Cape Point Nature Reserve (reviewed separately) you have to visit the lighthouse right at it's "point". Arriving at the main visitors parking area you have 2 options available to reach the lighthouse - the first and easier option is to take the Flying Dutchman Funicular up (tickets sold on site), and the other option (which is more of a challenge) is to hike up to it. This isn't your average hike as the incline is quite intense and can be too strenuous for some, but what an achievement if you do manage to do it, and you are rewarded with amazing views along the way. The path is paved and there are some rest areas along the way. If you decide to do the hike up you can always take the Funicular back down afterwards, or vice versa. The lighthouse itself is beautiful, providing great panoramic sea views. It can however get very busy here as the space isn't big and the lighthouse is a big tourist attraction, especially during the summer season.

The stunning Ligthhouse views is really something special. The Cliffs on the right side filled with all types of birds is quite an amazing site. The drive up to the light house on the vinacular is quite enjoyable. The museum inside the shop area is very interesting with all the ships that ran aground there many years. Enjoyed everything here, a lovely site to enjoy mountains, oceans together.

The old Cape Point Lighthouse is already visible from the parking lot and is therefore a landmark when climbing up. Built in 1857, the lighthouse served until 1919. From an ordinary point of view, it seems surprising that this beautiful lighthouse located at the highest point (262 meters) of the cape is not operational. On the contrary, the new lighthouse, located much lower (87 meters), is a true landmark in this dangerous area for navigation. The reason for the retirement of the old lighthouse was the shipwreck of the steamship Lusitania in 1911. It was not the famous American Lusitania, the sinking of which in 1915 was one of the reasons for the entry of the United States into the war on the side of the Entente. The Portuguese Lusitania, which was going to Mozambique, ran into the Burrows Rocks, due to the fact that the navigator did not see the lighthouse, because fog often hangs at the higher level of Cape Point, which made the old lighthouse invisible to navigation. This fog often hangs even now, making the lighthouse invisible from the parking lot. I was lucky the weather was great, the old lighthouse was visible from all points. Getting to the new lighthouse is more difficult. It is accessible only to the maintenance staff and the lighthouse keeper.

Lovely views, steep stairs up to the lighthouse didn't get inside light house though, sea breeze cools you down, our visit had quite a number of visitors so a little traffic on top but everyone got to view

Go early to avoid crowds! Ian addition to walking or taking the cable car up to the old lighthouse, definitely also go on the 25min roundtrip walk to the Dias watch point

its a tough walk to the top. The funicular will only take you a portion of the route and you will still need to walk the last bit. Lots of steps... so take some good shoes and be sure to enjoy the different views from the look out points on the way.

If you have it in you talk the 45 minute walk from the light house down towards the point - lovely views and less people.

Although I'm in my fifties and unfit I had little trouble making my way up to the lighthouse and back on foot. Some places to rest on the way if needed and you're rewarded with great views.
Hardest part was avoiding all the other people doing the same
