The Chestnut Centre is an escape from the bustle of life, in a secluded natural valley in the Peak National Park. The centre is home to 4 species of otters including the rare Giant Otter, 15 species of owl, tame fallow deer in the deer herd, foxes, pine marten and the elusive, endangered Scottish Wildcat etc. Truly a ‘Hidden Gem in a Hidden Valley”.

I visited with my son aged 4 as I had been when I was young and I was not disappointed. The views as you walk down to the enclosures are beautiful and once there you are treated to a wide range of owls and otters who seem very happy in their environments. There are other animals along the way to... More

We visited here with out nine year old twins. We weren't sure what to expect but it was fab. The staff were very friendly. The animals were well kept and there enclosures were nice. The variety of owls was very good. The otters were lovely and we saw them being fed which the children loved. The gift shop and cafe... More

You need a nice day to come here as there is a bit of walking involved. As you walk around you see the wildlife and otters . Not a great deal to do but it's a lovely place . This place is even more special at Christmas if you book to see santa. You are not rushed and brilliant for... More

As per Gari W's review, though only managed a couple of hours wondering round. Would probably take longer if you have kids, or in the warmer weather. Really nice spot, in lovely countryside - enjoyed the walk.

We have been to the Chestnut centre multiple times over the last few years and every time it is a pleasure. Especially in Winter you have to time your visits with the feedings as otherwise the otters aren't always very active (they come from hot countries and it is very cold!) but the sounds they make as they move around... Not the best experience today simply as we are two adults and a number of the animals didn't appear to be present - also I imagine more are more active at dusk, and so I'm not sure how this works year round. Had a good day walking around, was a little less structured than we imagined. Had ourselves a pleasant... More

I came here with my husband, our 3 year old and my elderly mum. It was a lovely place to walk and fantastic to see the owls, deer and otters. There is a small but well stocked shop and cafe, so we enjoyed lunch after our walk around the park. There was plenty to keep our 3 year old amused... More
