Lovely area, kept clean. A little disappointed with the Christmas market in that area, expected more. Lovely Christmas lights. Plenty of shops.

Visited during December for the Christmas market and definitely gets you in the mood for Christmas with all the lights and the food stalls cooking on open wood fires. Definitely have to try the mulled wine, lots of handmade gifts are also for sale as well as fresh fruit and veg

Highlights-
1. Wonderful place to hang around with friends and family. There's something for everyone. My daughter enjoyed playing with the big teddy

2. Squeaky clean, pedestrian friendly place. Lots of eateries, shops and tourist offices

3. Adeqaute sitting arrangements unlike at many other well known squares in Europe

4. You can buy souvenirs, hoodies, tshirts from the shops here. I would say they are the cheapest in Europe

5. Lots of hotels and apartments nearby

Decided to have an after dinner stroll around the square on Wednesday evening of 14.11.18 at around 8.30pm to admire the museum lit up, square at night. etc.....now don't get us wrong, we had heard of the rumours & we are no means naive, but within a period of a 15 minute period of walking around the square we were hassled by several people requesting we visit strip clubs, have sensual massages or if we were interested in various sex acts. Also witnessed a robbery of a tourist rucksack we think. We declined all of these offers by the way!, This was a little bit too much even for us. We visited it in the day time - normal shopping/tourist area as far as we are concerned. Shame really as we thought the rest of the city is absolutely beautiful of an evening. Stay away from Wenceslas Square after dusk unless you want to encounter the previously mentioned, prostitutes and there pimps! It let's beautiful Prague down.

As it was the location of the former monastic church it was formerly named Petrské náměstí, as well as Otakarov náměstí. Before the establishment of city Znojmo the current Wenceslas square was used as a Slavic market where, after a long journey from Brno, Prague and Austria, goods were sold. In the middle of the square a fountain with the sculpture of St. Václav (dating back to second half 17th century, by sculptor Vilém Mandík from Gdansk, who also created the well-known Hercules fountain in Olomouc). Between this fountain and school building stood the Gothic sv. Petra a Pavla Church (its cloisters were connected with the monastic complex of saint Clair with the (yet) demolished -sv. Kateřiny Chapel. In archaeological research skeletons with broken skulls of people who had died in the disastrous earthquake were found in the ruins of this early Christian Church where the City Council introduced Czech Protestant services in 1580, it was secularized in 1782 and demolished 1830, the then fallow plot is the current square. On the site of the demolished salt house a theatre was built. The many impressive Renaissance houses (second half 16e century) are relatively unchanged. House number 3 housed the former bakery where Holy Clement Maria Hofbauer took apprenticeship (humanitarian activities during Napoleonic wars, he was canonized in 1909).

I didn't find this so spectacular, but I had to walk through anyway to get to the castle and church. I might as well have stopped by.
