The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Frederiksberg
Located between Noerrebro and Vesterbro you’ll find Frederiksberg, which is actually a municipality in itself but completely surrounded by Copenhagen. Here there are several fine theaters, from the experimental to the great Det Ny Teater (The New Theater) which specializes in transcribing the great London and New York musicals into Danish, and has done so for several years with huge success. In Frederiksberg you’ll find Denmark’s most beautiful (and expensive) city villas. These 4-5 square miles form the Beverly Hills of Copenhagen. Here you’ll also find Frederiksberg Have (Garden) which sports huge outdoor concerts, from classical to electronic dance music. To top it off, dining options range from cozy family restaurants to some of the area’s most trendy cafés.

This is a nice building to visit, right next to Frederiksberg Center mall. Check out the open revolving elevators when you walk into the building and turn left.

We were busy exploring this gorgeous area and came across this tall clock tower. We didn’t go inside but the area outside was quite nice. Lots of flowers, statues fountain and it also had a nice bar/Cafe.

The Radhus is a fairly new building by some standards (1905), but it is the view from the tower which makes it worth a visit.
From the lofty perch on high, the compact and easily reached layout of the Danish capita can be seen, so maybe this is a site best visited early in your visit rather than on the last day as we did.
Once you've scaled the many, many steps (some age groups may need to consider the acccessibility of this view), the harbours, coast and bridge are within view, although current building work and construction has rendered some of the explanatory photos of the horizon redundant once the tower has been reached.
To get up the tower, a ticket from the information centre at the Radhus needs to be bought (unless you have a Copenhagen Card, in which case it is free) and you have to wait for the next scheduled ascent before you head up. In our case the lady from the information office was clearly overwhelmed and having first reassured ever member of the 44 strong gp that there was no hurry, she then proceeded to castigate those who had not yet arrived to the rallying point to hear her request that all bags be placed in a common room before heading up. Neither did she remind the older members of the group that they needed to use the toilets downstairs before they had reached the 3rd floor, by which stage it was already too tardy. Having thus taken the group to the starting point of the tower, the group was then advised to climb the tower and take as much time, provided that they all returned to the room to reclaim their bags within the next 25-30 mins.
In short, this is a tower with a good view, slightly chaotic organisation and in need of a little more pre-emptive information to reduce the potential issues of bags/age group access.

Construction of Frederiksberg Rådhus (Town hall) started during World War 2, but was not finished before 1953. Partly duck to lack of building materials.
It covers an area equal to a soccer field. Inside the building their is more than 20.000 m2. 800 people is employed here.
The first Saturday every month their is an opportunity for a guided tour. It starts 13.00 and covers the key rooms of the building as well as the tower, which is 50 m above street level. Here you have one of the best views of Copenhagen. The tour is free and takes about 45 minutes. It is in Danish, but the guides are happy to translate if need be. Worthwhile no matter if you are Danish, living on Frederiksberg or just a (foreign) visitor.

It was interesting to learn that Frederiksberg is an independent, and determinedly independent, municipality, so it was great to see its Administrative Centre.
Replacing an older Town Hall some distance away, due to population growth, it was unveiled in 1952.
It’s a most impressive edifice and boasts a 60 metre high tower. A grand Plaza is in front, which has a fine sculpture of a woman and man, back to back and with arms entwined.

I might be biased as I live nearby, but if you are in Copenhagen I really do not feel like this is worth visiting, it is just a walk-by kind og sight. Visit the Frederiksberg Garden instead

Recommend to visit this and all churches, buildings, gardens labeled "Frederik", because of the quality and this is due to the King family.

It was around the time of the Millennium when I first visited the City Archives. My challenge was to learn why a bronze bust of Sir Winston Churchill had curiously been placed in a garden at the rear of the town hall in the 1950's. Tove was an archivist at this time and together we tried to piece together any information or papers that were available. The bust of Sir Winston was later moved to Churchill Parken near Kastellet. The reason for the bronze bust being in Copenhagen is because there was a huge appreciation by the Danes for the leadership of Winston Churchill in liberating Denmark and more importantly defeating an unbelievable NAZI evil. The archivists speak English and are more than happy to help international visitors.
