We had lunch and diner and spent one night at the Uma Bee farm. It was not only a relaxing stay in the middle of nature but also a culinary experience, tasting small locally grown fresh water snails cooked in coconut milk, a delicacy! Other more traditional food dishes were also very good. They really have a great chef!
The stone walled pool from a local spring was so nice and cool, really refreshing in the heat of May! The traditional nipa hut was simple but comfortable. With nice cool air from surrounding nature, no need for aircon, but if you want they also have aircon rooms.
It is agritourism so you live with nature… going to bed very early as pool close at 5 pm (drained and cleaned every day) and restaurant closes at 6:30 pm…
Good for our health! We enjoyed it and will be back!

A great place to spend some relaxation time. Just have a tour of the farm, wade at the pools, or enjoy eating/drinking at their resto. Then before going home, buy some items at their store, maybe some honey, turmeric tea, peanut butter, shirts, native slippers, etc.

Have been here for several times with family and friends and recently, I brought my family here . The owner, Luz Gamba is a long time friend but with her travels too abroad had spruced up the place to one wholesome natural wonder where one can see the natural beauty of Sorsogon. balay Buhay sa Uma Bee Farm is an experience of good food, helpful staff and a feel of truly a clean -colorful surrounds. Hear the rustling spring water that comes from surrounds of the famous Bulusan Volcano, cool and refreshing.

The area looks great but the the thing is the gare is so expensive and we did not even have a tour guide. They charged us a 100Php per head and after paying that's it we are on our own. We just met an environmentalist who was so kind enough to tour us even though she was not working there. The thing that really made me gave such a failing grade was the service especially being welcomed. The environmentalist introduced us to the owner and she did not even bother to smile at us. We were like outsiders that aren't welcomed in there. I hope that they would improve that because 100php for just looking at the flowers and a single specie of bee is not worth it.

We are very sorry about this Sir Lerry.. Our owner works in Manila to get the wherewithals to make the bee farm look great. That day you came must be one of those days when she was spread too thin. Yes thank you for reminding us too; some few others also did--regarding tour guides. We are dependent on the DOT for the training; they must be overloaded too not to have set a schedule yet for us or this part of the region. Yes Sir we will be working on this our failing grade. We hope to have improved when you come back. Again our apologies. God bless you.

"Balay Buhay sa Uma" - What does that mean? I asked our tour guide - He said, "parang bahay sa bukid po". Anong meron doon? - I inquired -, He said "bee farm po". And so my sister and my niece said - Let's go and see. On our way to the farm - I was already so amazed by the site of Mt. Bulusan and the big old trees along both sides of the way. Growing up in the city, I can only see a few of this kinds of trees. The road going the farm is already a "de-stressing" for my eyes and I took several pictures on the way. When we were at the gate, although I liked the gate itself, looked "very private " - I thought to myself "Is this it?" Like I actually judged it already because I thought it was just a small place. And so we went inside, saw the reminders and signs - "don't be noisy" and "do not disturb the bees" kind of thing. So, we went on different paths with my sister - I went to see the small fish bond, and mind you, the pathway was just remarkable, the stone path the bamboo arcade and the line of "bee condos", the line of flower beds, small bushes abound. The staff here must have worked so hard! It was really skillfully maintained. And as I continued to walk inside, I saw the stunning Mt. Bulusan - it was like a stone's throw away. I was in awe!! Further inside, I saw the small nipa huts and the little picnic areas. It was so refreshing... and then I saw the swimming pool! It was pure nature - it was a natural spring pool! I looked at where the water was coming from - unfortunately it was "off-limits" but it is NATURAL SPRING!! I dipped my feet, it was cold, so refreshing. I loved the pure and clean air inside this "little resort". Ang sarap mag muni-muni dito, away from all the city life, the traffic and the pollution. There was something spiritual in this place. It is very place for a retreat and to commune with nature. The short visit was refreshing, I would have stayed a little bit longer, if only our schedule wasn't so tight.
The next time you go on vacation - visit Sorsogon and do not forget this little sanctuary - Balay Buhay sa Uma - "House of Life in the Fields".

Thank you very much Mam Juday.
Your narrative would make a powerful opening salvo for our farm introduction! An awesome spiel!
We are glad there are those like you who appreciate what we work for and what we have to offer--the SPIRITUAL-NESS of the place--not minding the "little things" that don't matter anyway.
Thank you very much for the recommendation to visit the"House of Life in the Fields." God bless.

The place offers different products from honey, they have a bee farm, a restaurant, rooms for people who would like to stay longer. Food is delicious and the place is recommended for nature lovers and people who would like to have a quiet and peaceful vacation.

After the family's refreshing outing in San Binon at the foot of Mt. Bulusan, we decided to take a left turn to this simple and welcoming haven. It's a sleepy place where one will be reconnected to the life at the farm. There were a number of beehives and a spring the flows freely towards the stream. If one wants a quiet place to relax for a day or to find solcae in a busy day this sure is a place to be. I noticed that it still needs a lot of work though for it to be more interesting. It lacks activities like demo for bee harvest or atleast a guided tour for people to be familiar with what the place has to offer. I must say, that young as the place is, it offers a lot of possibilities. For 50 pesos per head ocular visit, it's not entirely bad.

We have noted your observations. We will be working on them. We are just waiting for DOT to schedule the training for tour guides. We are culturing stingless bees where we harvest once a year only. Unlike other bee species like Cerana or Meliifera which they can open their boxes and pull bee hives, we cannot open colonies of stingless bees midway for demo as we will be hurting them, destroying their home way before the right harvest time. If you looked closely, we are using coconut shells for their homes. We hope you will understand. But we had other guests who were fortunate enough to have come to the farm during harvest time. Thank you very much.

Good place to relax, no internet, no TV just peace and quiet. We stayed in a small air conned hut and mainly ate at the small restaurant area ( although only open till 5pm, but they have brewed cover available almost all night) as it was a 20 minute trike ride into the nearest town and very few places to eat there at night , although there were street vendors. Has it's own mountain fed cold water swimming area very refreshing, staff were very helpful and great value for money although not sure how you would get on if you didnt speak the local language.

We are overly glad to receive your review. Great!
Sir Gus Craig thank you too for understanding our predicament. Our staff are mothers & fathers from our neighborhood to help them make extra income. Others are drop-outs/out-of-school youth wanting to earn some for the next school year. They do understand English but you have to bear with their spoken "carabao" English. Happy Getting More Fun in the Philippines!

some helpful tips:
1. if you have a question you have to go and find the oic or manager. no oic or sr officer at the info/cashier area to welcome you or answer your query
2. check out the ₱1,000.00 worth of pansit. My kiddos thought twas a spaghetti missing the tomato sauce. lol. not worth the ₱1,000 peso. hard to find pork or any chicken meat. only hotdog and fish balls. which made me decide to cancel the pre-ordered meals (bfast, lunch and dinner)
i remember the pansit canton at mkt shangrila for less than 1k w sugpo pa!
3. when you check in make sure to have your room throughly check pls. otherwise you might have other companion. which made us decide to check out the following day (see photo of the reptile 😱😱😱)
4. so we got to 2 rooms. trigona and bulusan. suggest if uou want to get a good sleep dont get bulusan room which is just downstairs of the lobby. bec whenever there’s guest arriving, having their meals etc you will hear all the noise including the push/pull of chairs.

The pool was extremely relaxing and nice. However, we were not informed beforehand that it costs 100PHP per person to swim in it and that we would also be charged to make use of the small huts to sit in near the pool. It would be so much more ideal if a sign consisting of prices for use of each amenity were clearly displayed as it seemed the staff waited until after we had used them to inform us that we had to pay for using them. We just felt a bit cheated after our visit. I do not think we will come back again.

May I ask for the room rates? And is it possible to request or ask for a seminar or lecture about stingless bees? Thank you very much.

For group/educational tours we normally, upon request, give a powerpoint presentation about our bee farm. Beekeeping seminars being held here at Balay Buhay are being organized by LGUs/other groups. We play host. Sometimes these groups request our farm technician to speak on a topic. For a fee that is. Thank you.

Hello. There are regular flights to Legazpi City. At the airport there are vans/taxis. The bee farm is in San Roque, Bulusan, Sorsogon. It can be accessed via Casig-Juban-Irosin. We are 8kms from Irosin poblacion. Situated at the back of the barangay catholic chapel of San Roque. Thank you.
