Filled with 18th-century paintings and ornate rooms, this white and gold palace is surrounded by a 1400-acre park complete with fountains, bridges, the Agate Pavilion bathhouse and the Great Pond. The Palace also has a famous Amber Room, stolen by Nazi troops during WWII, but now recreated by Russian craftsmen.

Catherine's palace is definitely worth a visit, and helps break up the drive to Peterhof if you are headed there. However, I thought it was a little monotonous. Every room is covered in gold leaf and mirrors. They look pretty similar. The grounds and various buildings are beautiful and walking around in nice weather is lovely.

Absolutely stunning opulence and once again the benefit of having a guide cannot be overstated. December a good time to visit to avoid the crowds but even then you have wait at times for the larger groups in front of you. The park makes for a pleasant stroll

Virtually the most exclusive interior ever. Have you heard of the amber room? It's real! But it is only one out of hundred of amazing decor rooms

This is such a beautifull and well preserved example of a palace. It really gives you a feel for the royal life 2 centuries ago. If you have the time, visit it!

We visited St Petersburg as part of a cruise of the Baltic countries and Russia. It was by far our favorite city. Catherine's palace in Pushkin was superb - you must see the before and after restoration pictures to understand how skillful and passionate those Russian artists were in restoring the place to even better than it originally looked. Palace... More

The summer palace is about 45 minutes drive from the downtown city precinct and it's best to get there just on opening time (10am in winter) before the crowds of tourists start to arrive. Even though it was low season on the date we visited, there were large tour groups starting to crowd the rooms so it could be bedlam... More

If you go to St Petersburgh, don't miss this place! Unforgettable and beautiful. Also its very easy to go there from Downton. You should take the subway. Take the subway until the metro station Moskovskaya (blue line). Then a bus in front of House of Soviets (numbers 549/ 387/545). The bus will take you to the palace. And to go... More

We visited the summer palace on a recent cruise after seeing the winter palace the day before. The outside of the palace was breathtaking enough and the drizzle of rain didn't stop the small band that greeted us from playing. Inside was worth the 10 minute wait outside in the queue. The Amber room was particularly beautiful. Well worth a... More

This is another beautiful place. We did make the mistake of getting there way too early. You have to do your homework and understand when these places are open to the Russian public, and when they are open for visitors. We ended up with hours to walk around the surrounding gardens and town before we could get inside the 'gates'.... More

After a short coach ride from the port, you wind your way through the streets and through a gateway and there you are greeted by the splendour of Catherines Palace. Brightly coloured, opulent and impressive in scale, the palace is a must see on any visit to St Petersburg. Originally built at the height of power and fully restored to... More
