Forgot to add to my 5 star review of Tantes restaurant that the harbor parking lot is now a fee lot up until 5 PM. If you do not like paying for parking and would like to eat at Tantes plan on doing so after 5. FYI: Beach Bums is now closed possibly a victim of covid.

Who could want more? Maalaea offers more than just tranquility. Some of the lowest prices on the island and you can walk to the aquarium, mini golf and bumper cars. Restaurants and whale watching tours right at the harbour and deep sea charters as well. It's at the centre of the island so you can get to Lahaina in 35 minutes or Kihei in 10. We've been going there since the mid 70's and it really hasn't changed much which is what we love about the place.

There is so much to do in Maalaea Harbor! We love the whale watching in the winter, the bustling atmosphere of the small seaport, freshly baked cookies, miniature golf and water bumper cars. But the best thing we do is spent half a day at the Ocean Center! It has the most beautiful and fascinating collection of local sea life all in one spot. You can invest in a “ behind the scenes” tour for an additional but it is well worth it, especially if you have children. One year we rented a condo nearby and found that this harbor is very windy. Sugar Beach is nearby for that long morning walk. Try the General Store for a sandwich or pastry. If the weather is less than perfect for a beach day, this is the place to be. Lahaina is way too congested these days!

Maalaea harbor is home to the Pacific Whale Foundation and the Maui Aquarium. We have been on many adventures that began here. We have always had a great time and enjoyed the people we have met there. It is worth your time to visit here.

We stayed in a condo in Maalaea which was great. The place isn’t as busy as the other parts of the island. We had turtles right out the front and you can walk to the shops for good drinks and supplies. There are nice walks along the waterfront. While it is the windy side of the island and you are under the flight path I would stay here again no problems. I like the wind it means the humidity is kept to a minimum.

After a pleasant trip with Four Winds II, we ventured back to our vehicle. While walking on the dock of this lovely harbor, I slipped and feel on my arm and broke it. I am writing this review to warn others of the slippery spots on the dock next to the water. I was given ice by the team on Four Winds and they also administered first aid. They were convinced that my arm would be ok. When I arrived back in Canada, it was discovered that I did fracture my elbow. So, be careful...I believe they do have signs posted!

Similar to the harbor area in Lahaina without the crowds. Not as many activities as in Lahaina but plenty of boating activities to choose from. A few restaurants nearby and a few shops as well.

Several slips where you can charter fishing, whale watching, etc. Can get water gear rentals, not really a shopping area, only a couple of stores.

Did you by chance pay to park and if so how much was it? I haven't been in a few years and can't remember.
Written September 28, 2021
No we had our charter pick us up. I think you can park for free up by the shops but you have to walk aways to get to the boats .I think you have to pay to park down by the boats.
Written September 29, 2021
