Sasamat provides a lovely white sand beach on a lake that can be quite clean. The cleanliness depends on the number of people in the water - crowds equal murk and kids doing what kids do. Likewise, for part of the Spring, there can be too many geese with poop everywhere including the water.
It’s very popular with open water swimming, having little or no current and being in a largely protected valley the water is rarely more than rippled.
Power boats are not allowed, but it is popular with kayakers, stand up paddle boarders and floated of all kinds.
One recent development is pay parking. However if you get there early and go in for a swim around the lake you can easily get out before 10:00 and not have to pay.

Hope this helps?

This was our first time exploring this area. We enjoyed the 3 km walk around the lake. The trail is very well maintained with lots of board walk and gravel path. The washroom was closed at the White Pine beach area due to being the winter season. Bathrooms were available at the main parking lot. Being January, there was lots of parking and only a few others were walking the trails.
Sasamat Lake is a beautiful spot to check out!

A beautiful morning - see pictures - we walked along the beach and over the bridge then up through forests to the "Upper Look Out Trail". Stopped for lunch on the rocky look out. Took a longer route back to White Pine Beach. The pristine former "Memorial Trail" up to the look-out is now being used by motorcyclists so it's beginning to show wear.

Beautiful spot and the lake can really warm up by about mid -July most years but it is also overrated. On summer weekends its the most cramped beach ive ever seen. Its too crowded. Impossible to find parking after about 10am. Theyre trying to limit crowds by closing the lots early and they're ticketing and towing cars left on Bedwell Bay road so if the lots are full your only option is to take transit or cycle in. But it isn't doing much to ease the crowds. White pine beach is really just 2 small beaches and on busy days don't expect alot of space. The water also has had e-coli issues probably from a large flock of Canada geese and their droppings. It is much nicer if you go on a less busy day.

I went for a couple hours with my son and his friends and I left. When I came back the ranger would not let me in the gate to pick up the kids. She told me they have to walk up the hill work ALL their stuff and load it on the Hwy. She argued with me for about a minute and if you have been to this place there is not much space to stop and load your vehicle on the side of the Hwy. The beach itself is nice but the behaviour of the ranger was despicable.

White Pines is a beautiful little spot, but as a Port Moody residents with a dog, we can't go. The no dogs rule bites (pun intended). My mother, young children and I arrived with our two well-behaved dogs ready for a wonderful day, only to have to turn around and go home because the dogs were not allowed at the beach. But before we did, my mom took my oldest (then 2) to the beach for 40ish minutes while I walked my infant and the two dogs around the parking lot and along the path which was far too close to the road for my comfort. Frankly, it was an awful experience for me. I agree with another reviewer, it is sad that responsible dog owners are penalized.
I get it, dog turds on the beach are unpleasant, dogs running in and out of the water as little kids play along the shore is somewhat scary. I have small children, these things really bug me too! So much so we avoid dog parks and dog beaches like the plague. BUT not all dog owners are the same, and a blanket no dogs rule just plain sucks, especially when there are less discriminating solutions.

Looked amazing. Got there around noon and was able to get parking. Very full though. We had to leave right away as there are no dogs allowed on the beach... Sad he would have just sat next to me and no one would even have noticed him... And if he pooped I would have cleaned it up... Sad how others ruin it

Lake Sasamat is located in Port Moody near Belcarra Regional Park and Buntzen Lake. Only a 40 minute drive from Fort Langley. Come early to get get a good parking spot (free), and a good spot on the beach (especially on the weekends). There are public washrooms and picnic tables on the beach. This is one of the warmer lakes in the Vancouver area that has a beautiful sandy beach, and an easy access road for wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers. No dogs allowed in the beach area. You can take your dogs on the lake loop trail, and signs mark where dogs are allowed to walk. This is an easy 45-50 minute walk around the lake which includes some small bridge crossings, some ups and downs on the trail, beautiful lake views, and a long floating bridge crossing. Make sure your dogs have a license, and don't forget your fishing license either, but most importantly don't forget your bathing suits and floaties.

The beach is clean, there's facilities for family picnicking. Lovely trails for walking through BC's incredible forests. Very busy during the summer months, leave early to find parking!

Do NOT visit on a weekend, especially not on a long weekend... Other than those crowded times, it is a nice beach to play in the sand and in the relatively warm (and shallow) water. You can also hike the very nice, shaded and flat trail on the border between the water and the forest to the floating bridge (maybe 20 min walk, one way).
We hiked all the way around the lake several times, It is a relatively flat terrain for an outdoor workout. The most beautiful section is between white pine beach and the bridge.
