Visiting family including my teenagers.
There is a lot of signage to tell us the story and even a video. Everything is available in French.
The person at the reception spoke only English, but she was very friendly!
They suggest a gift for climbing to the top of the lighthouse. The last landing is not accessible, but it is still interesting!

Very interesting spot to history buffs! It is more interesting when the windmill is manned by a student guide. It is usually opened from Victoria Day to Labour Day. You can climb nearly to the top with views of the area & has information boards on each floor. There are also information plaques on grounds outside the Windmill. The latest use of the Windmill was a lighthouse to pilot ships on the mighty St Lawrence river. It is a nice place for a picnic & has 2 tables plus an outhouse! Most visitors park on the road, too lazy to use the parking lot. I believe the donation to tour inside is $2.

Visited in summer of 2024. I know the story of the battle because my 3rd great grandfather fought with the British there, and I read the great book Guns Across the River. Onsite signage will help one understand the gist of the story. I found the summer student (SS) most unhelpful...the SS seemed to prefer reading a book. SS ofered no information about the site, which one ussually expects from staff at heritage sites...story boards only tell so much. SS shrugged when I asked what the Fiends of the Windmill group did. SS knew it paid their wage. I had to ask to see the video which I was not advised about on entry. Inside was dusy and could not sit to watch the video because bench and chairs dirty. I had to brush away cobwebs to see a book I was interested in. The site itself is worth the stop but bring your own knowledge of the event or research it later (Wikipedia is helpful).

The Battle of the Windmills Historic Site (1838) is right off the highway and so close that it should not be missed. A great perspective of the American/Canadian/British/Native American history that is worth learning. A good place to stretch the legs overlooking the St. Lawrence River too.

There is not too much to see, but I believe, it is an important part of Canada`s history.
Worth short stop in any case.

It was educational, interesting and fun. There is some steps to the shoreline.
Between the lighthouse and parking there is a railway track. There is a picnic table to eat.

Easy to find by following the signs from highway #2 this national historic site has lots of interpretive plaques about it's place in our history. View over the St Lawrence is terrific. The tower is currently being restored ,it will reopen in 2016.

We saw the lighthouse and stopped to see what it was. but it was locked and we finally found a sign that said it was part of the War of 1812 (Canadians and Americans).
