The views from Chiesa di San Nicolò (San Nicolò Church) are stunning. It sits atop the charming village of Savoca. If you are up for it, walk up the steep hill to the top and if you aren't, take a golf cart available for some Euro at the bottom. I was with someone who couldn't walk up, but we did walk down. This church is known for the location of the Michael Corleone's wedding to Apollonia in The Godfather, but it's so much more than that. It's a Roman Catholic church that was built in the 13th century. It was restored after damages from two earthquakes, one in 1693 and the other in 1908. The interior was adorned with Sicilian-Norman style frescoes.

For us this was the most interesting part of our visit to the town. It is a hot, steep walk up to the church from the town square but there are tuk-tuk rides available. It is probably best known as being the church where Michael Corleone and Apollonia were married in the Godfather but it is full of information about the history of the church and St Lucy celebrations which was really interesting. It cost 2 euros to enter - cash payment only.

We walked up a steep hill to view this lovely little church on a scenic hillside. It was the church where Michael and Apollonia wedding was filmed in Godfather Part 1.

Maria at bar Vitelli told me to go to the church as it was also in the godfather as the place Michael Corleone got married. What i did not expect was to hear the most angelic voice singing. I was confused as no one as the alter and looked up for a place the choir sat then realised it was Antonio who was at the ticked desk. Was worth going if only to hear his voice and normally i am not a fan of that singing, but it was so perfect it resonated

The Chiesa di San Nicolo /Santa Lucia is beautiful!
Unfortunately, an incident coloured my stay most negatively! Upon entrance my fellow travelers and I were asked for a voluntary donation, meaning that it was optional. Not having any cash on us, we entered anyway... The young man at the church's reception saw us later, when we had left the church, in fact several meters away. Passing us by, while sitting on his motorcycle, he yelled at us, saying that we, the French, are stingy! That we promise funds and never deliver! My fellow travelers and I are neither French nor stingy! We are heartbroken at this racist attack!

This hidden gem in Savoca is not to be missed. We travelled there with our group and this was the church that was used during the wedding scene between Michael and Appollonia in the filming of :The Godfather". A donation of 1 euro is necessary to enter. In the back of the church there is memorabilia from the film. [pictures] It is a must visit for fans of the film. Since it is a church, modest dress and low volume is appreciated

The setting of this church is reason alone to pay a visit.Once inside you have more opportunity to take some photos with some godfather memorabilia.

We visited this lovely church as part of a Godfather tour. The church itself had an interesting story that was worth exploring. They also understood that the Godfather fans would want to see this spot so they created a room with some memorabilia. We were able to go inside although the inside did not appear in the film. In a small room there was a television where they showed us the wedding scene that was filmed here. The guide then told us about their patron saint. It only took a few minutes to see all there was to see so I would recommend incorporating other things if you decide to come this way. But I've never been a Godfather fan and I still appreciated this charming church and town and was grateful I could see it.
