I went to Oranienbaum with a tour group with Russian language no English. I speak very basic Russian but it was the only tour I could get on the day. It was a bitterly cold day with a lot of snow falling. You do not get to see the gardens and fountains as it is near winter. The landscape was... More

About 50km from Sait Pete centre by car this ensemble is worthwhile visiting. The park and all the constructions in it. It was not ruined by fascists during Second War Two and so it has the authentic atmosphere from the 18th centuriy when is was founded. The park is enormous and well kept in most places, starting from May and... More

Although we did not go inside any of the museums, we cycled around the whole area of the park. A really beautiful place that let's you get away from the busy life of the city. If you do have a chance to go there, consider renting a bicycle and cycling around the park, you actually are allowed to cycle there,... More

An amazing experience to be taken on a guided tour by one of the curators around the fantastic renovation of Oranienbaum. Visiting St. Petersburg ?, then put this wonder on your list.

Peterhof was closed due to the G20 summit and the website recommended we go to this park and its palaces instead. It was about 200r to get in to the park, and each palace was around the same. Some are not yet re-furbished so are not really worth the entrance fee, especially as the attendants are horrified if someone actually goes... More

Absolutely unique Chinese palace has for some 5 years been closed for public due to restoration - but in late December 2010 the Hermitage museum made it possible to see the most exquisite details of that palace, namely beads panels originally decorating one of the rooms. They were taken off the walls for restoration in the Hermitage workshops. Those panels... More

Going out to Orienenbaum by train was a fun and enjoyable experience. I would have to say that the Palace park in Orienenbaum would have been even more enjoyable had our timing not been so bad - they not decided - after all this time - to restore everything in sight all at once. Hopeing for photo op of the... More
