About
It has a Renaissance style and retains more than beautiful 60 sculptures and 50 paintings of the Cusqueña School of Art, in addition to silverware, altarpieces and other movable goods. Built at the end of the XVI century and the beginning of the XVII century, the stunning murals of its interior cover the entirety of the ceiling and walls. The paintings, made by Tadeo Escalante, show the aftermath of human life, that is, the vision of death, the final judgment, glory and hell, defined by the union of Andean symbolism, its popular beliefs and colonial art.

We visited this church on our way from Puno to Cusco, replacing the Andahuaylillas chapel which was closed due to the earthquake. We were thrilled with it! Beautiful, richly decorated, sumptuous and with beautiful frescoes. A visit is recommended!

100 km away from Cusco lies this small provincial town of Huaro. A colorful church sits on the side of town's main square. Nostalgic, sleepy atmosphere of true Peruvian province. Well worth a stop en route from Cusco to Lake Titikaka (Puno).
(Note to editors: I have photos to share which I'd like to submit once you add Huaro to 'tripadvisor places').

From the outside, it looks like just another church. Once you step inside, beauty and awe-inspiring art/architecture unfold in every direction. I definitely recommend having a guide or asking for information about this church. Many of the murals and other artworks have stories you won't learn without a guide.

We have visited a couples of churches in and around Cusco and this less famous one is one of our favourite. The wall painting is so different and the alter is in a unique style too. There are not much tourists there and you have some quite time and experience more there.

We keep getting blown away by these grand old churches in this country. Each has its own unique story and the incredible length of time these structures have been here and still in use

Out of the way admittedly! But if you or your tour company is enroute to Lake Titicaca, then please ask them to stop by. Fantastic, well worth a visit.

Our tour bus from Puno to Cusco stopped off at Andahuaylillas but after looking at the post cards in the gift store I realized I had to come here as well. While the oil paintings and altar here aren't as impressive, the wall paintings are equally great with amazing scenes of the last judgment and hell. Check out the small, more simply painted church of Canincunca as well. It's just outside of town.

It's pretty dark inside so the frescoes don't produce the same effect as on professional photographs. The admission is S/.5. You can buy a combination ticket for all 3 churches in Andahuaylillas, Huaro, and Urcos
