I arrived at 6:30 worried that the temple would be closed but it stayed open past 7. The stupa (covered in gold) is beautifully lit at night, and there are several halls that offer a serene place for sitting or meditating. But the icing on...More

This is the one temple to dedicate time to in Chiang Mai, in my opinion. It is a long drive up, very long, and then you have to climb a large number of steps, but eventually, you arrive at the tranquil mountaintop temple above Chiang...More

A 15km winding mountain ride took us up to this hilltop temple. There you can either walk up the 300+ steps to see the golden pagodas and Buddhas or take the 5 min funicular tram. I like the Emerald Buddha there best.Besides that you can also...More

We made it up to this temple on the mountain after a couple full days in Chiang Mai, so we'd already had a chance to see several wats. By the time we made it there, our appreciation was probably diminished by the fact that we'd...More

Manage your expectations to appreciate it for what it is. It is not exactly the spiritual journey one could wish for, since it’s so popular and busy. But it is definitely worth a visit to appreciate the amazing architecture and culture.

It takes about an hour to go from central Chiang Mai to the temple. When you get there you can walk up 350 steps or take the tram. It is noticably cooler here and quite pleasant. The temple is very impressive and the view of...More

This is a pilgrimage for many; for me it was too many people and too many donation boxes. The inside of the wat is all gold and impressive. But I felt nothing religious about his experience and was even blessed by a monk. The biggest...More

Yes the red bhat buses are good and cheap but bit rough on the bum going up there. Plus there's so many other things to see near by while your there. Strike a deal with local taxi man. Id say a 1000bhat for the tour up there.

My group took the red trucks between bhubing palace and the temple, I'm sure you can walk but it probably would be a long way and it seems kind of unsafe with cars zooming up and down the road. However I saw people biking... More
