Ancient Kamiros - Perfect Archeological Site
Wow! We timed our visit perfectly. 5pm arrival in mid October meant that we had the place virtually to ourselves for the whole hour before closing time. It was a fascinating experience - and abandoned town with layers of archeological sites surrounding us. The view out to sea is spectacular, but the stones, roads, pillars, houses are the real gems. It is well laid out, with a series of steps, sensibly wide and solid, taking you up to the top of the site. It is a fairly easy climb. From there, you can walk down the main thoroughfare, taking in the sights on either side as you descend. At the lowest point you at the bath house, the forum and the sanctuary of the gods. There is a cafe and toilets on site, though we did not use them. The €6 fee was very reasonable, and there was no charge for parking. I think we chose the perfect time to visit!

Gorgeous place to spend an hour or two
Easy to find. Easy to park. Even if the ruins don't impress you, the scenery will. Take a stroll amongst the ancient streets of Rhodes' oldest greco/roman city and sit for a while enjoying the grasshoppers, birds and lizards as well as the forest and blue seas around you. We're fairly certain we saw an eagle too! It's an exposed hillside, so a hat and suncream are recommended. And it's a great compromise day out between the ruins and nearby beaches and tavernas. Well worth an hour or two and almost deserted on the several occassions we've visited over the years; if you're looking for a peaceful wander away from the bustle.

A must see when visiting Rhodes
We intentionally visited as part of our self drive tour of the island and we were not disappointed. There are a few areas with shade and there is lots of walking both up and down hill, some of which is quite steep. The pathways around the site are clearly marked. Suitable footwear is advised for the less stable surfaces. It is amazing to see such history with your own eyes and we are very grateful for the recommendation to visit such a beautiful site. Well worth the €6 per adult admission fee. Recommend a visit

    Amazing location
Had an amazing visit to Kamiros. Stunning location, you can see why they built a town here! We walked all the way round the outside first (no mean feat in 35 degrees., do take a hat and a drink!). Sat at the top (on thoughtfully hand-made log seats) and just drunk the views and the breeze in. Info boards good, staff all around to keep us in line. Definitely worth a visit for an hour or two, even if you’re not interested in history.

Together with Lindos and Ialysos, Kamiros was one of the three large Doric cities of the island.
It was an agricultural society which produced oil, wine and figs and it even had it's own coins.
Kamiros was abandoned when it's Residents decided to move to the City of Rhodes, which was founded after the three cities united into a single state and needed a new Capitol.
Excavations started in the 19th Century (1859-1864) and during the Italian occupation (1928-1942).
The important findings of the first excavations have been taken to the British Museum, the Louvre and other European Museums but the Italian excavations are displayed in the Museums of Rhodes.
Thank you, Italy !

To be able to step back to 900B.C issomething else, what an amazing place, with a tranquil and peaceful feel to it. One of age and history. For 6 euroes it is worth spending a few hours walking around this ancient site and taking in the breathtaking views.

Maybe trips to Turkey have spoilt us.

These ruines were nothing special. Poor restoration, little explanation and no sign posting for route to take.

The heat is intense here with only a few trees for shade ( we had read previous reviews so got here around 9. Glad we did). Take water as the snack bar is currently closed.

There appeared to be 3 routes - one obvious one up to the top, one that is sort of central that means you can walk ‘in the city’ and one that skirts the far side giving you views over the ruines.

As others have said there is little explanation, just 3 information boards that we found. Some areas like the baths have a stone plaque to say what it is.
You cannot freely wander in the rooms, although a few are open.

Toilets are available.

We were there for under an hour. Expensive for what you get.

This used to be a sizeable city and you can easily get a sense of the scale by walking around the ruins. There are very good information board (like most places in Greece!) which tell you about the history. The views are stunning - the sea to one side and mountains on the other. Lindos was great, but I think this is very much a hidden gem.

Well preserved ruins of an ancient Greek and Roman town. My only criticism would be the lack of information available about the finds and the ruins themselves. A small €6 entry fee, and a cafe on site (which we did not use so can't comment on). Water is not freely available and it is exposed and hot, so take a good supply. Well worth a look if you are interested in the history of Rhodes

Looking from the Acropolis towards the sea, one thinks that life here in the past must not have been so bad. Really a fantastic view. For the tour we would recommend the daytime off-peak times to avoid the high heat. The opening hours are great and very generous. Admission fees are low and children have free admission. Tip: If possible, take a guidebook with you, maps are often shown and you can imagine the former building much better.

My husband and I visited yesterday and are so glad we did. We found it so interesting to walk around the streets, see the ruins of the old temple and bath houses. There could have been a little more information but the leaflet and notice boards did give you enough.

Some of the artefacts taken from Kamiros are in the Archaeological museum in Rhodes, which we didn’t realise! A very interesting place with lovely views too!

We (2 adults + 1 child 11 years) visited the ruined city on the way to the airport.

The entrance fee was 6 EUR per adult, our son was free.

You can look at nice ruins and walk through the old houses.

At the bottom you have a breathtaking view of the sea.

That was nice.

Again, we were charged for child entry being non EUs. It's a slap in the face before you start. That aside it's a great historical site. We looked up all the information we needed to know online as there wasn't much on the site and no leaflet handed out when purchasing a ticket. Buy drinks prior to entry otherwise a 17cent bottle of water from the supermarket now becomes 1 euro 50!!! Honestly it's rip of central wherever you go nowadays. Be prepared!

The Ancient Kamiros Park was very enjoyable and had an entrance fee of 6 euro. It us about an hour away from Rhodes.. We walked to the top of the hill and took in the view of the ancient city. Then we walked down through the ruins and saw the houses, bathe, agora, temple, fountain up close. A great experience.
