Little piece of paradise
Nov. 2020
The well kept and well signed trails, the abundance of greenery and wildlife and committed staff will make your stay at Cloudbridge more than worth the trip inland. Stayed in the hummingbird cabin and was lucky to wake up to the title residents and after sundown on the property watch the coatimundis dancing in the dusk.

Amazingly nice reserve
Feb. 2020
Spent 1 day in San Gerardo de Rivas and decided to visit this reserve to bird watch on the trails. The main ranger station has a nicely decorated and informative interior. The trail we took led us to a beautiful waterfall plus a meditation garden. The reserve was very birds too. Wished we had more time to hike further.

Great place for bird watching. Our guide, Blaine, is very knowledgeable about the area since he grew up in the neighborhood. He also has lived and worked in New Jersey, so his English is great. Amazing assortment of plants and wildlife along with the exotic birds. Nice challenging hike, but doable, for sure.

An oasis of forest, amazing people!
Feb. 2019
My husband and I stayed at Cloudbridge Nature Reserve some years ago as volunteers. The manager, Tom, as his lovely wife, Linda, were welcoming and made us feel immediately at home. Tom was always ready to listen to our requests and to provide us with the best volunteer experience. Our accommodation was a lovely wooden house on the side of a stream. We would wake up early in the morning just to watch the sunrise and listen to the first sounds of nature waking up, truly magical! We assisted in research projects together with the other scientists at the reserve, from going on night nature tours looking for deadly snakes, to collecting data regarding the success of reforestation efforts. This was an experience we will never forget!

My husband and I toured this most GORGEOUS cloud forest with Tom who guided us through the amazing trails and educated us on how they are replanting numerous trees to preserve and enhance this most delicate and fantastic cloud forest. We had a total blast and felt very privileged to have experienced such a super special place on the planet. WOWZER!

Its good to hear that you enjoyed your time at Cloudbridge. We always are excited to share what we know about the tropical forests and how they impact the rest of the world. If more people understood this maybe they would change their lives just a little to make sure that the great forests of the world were better protected. Rain forests are taken down daily for the cheap meat and fast food industries as well as extraction of minerals. Sharing what you have learned will inspire others to respect and enjoy the forests everywhere.

Staying here was one of the best experiences of our lives.

We stayed in the Gavilan cabin which is a toughish ( and we are fit) 30 minute hike up extremely steep trails carrying our food and gear. As we went in the rainy season we did this walk in the pouring rain twice. This sounds negative but i only write it to point out that it is SO worth it (they do have cabins at the centre which also look lovely) The cabin is in a glorious place with amazing views and complete solitude - there are no sounds but nature. It isn't fancy but has literally everything you need and we were desperately sad to leave. We watched the rain and clouds snuggled in our hammock. We walked the Montana trail and met a famous local runner, three coatis, two spotted quail, forest floor millipedes and dozens of birds and butterflies. Then on our final afternoon we sat our veranda and watched hummingbirds (on our hummingbird feeder), swallow tailed kites, more coatis and a collared peccary. This place is amazing and doing such good work (50 000 new trees planted). Also thanks to the lovely young German guy who met us and sorted us out.

Thanks for the wonderful review. It is true that getting to that cabin in the rain may not be the most fun. But it is a rainforest and the rainy season! We are glad that the experience was worth getting wet for. It is a pretty special place and the Gavilan cabin is a wilderness experience for anyone who wants to find a little tranquility in their lives. It is also the cabin where our guests have the best chance of encountering wildlife. Great to hear that it all went well. Your stay helps to support continuing education and research programs at the reserve.
