Also with our Brazilian friends we have visited the hills of “Figueira de Lorvão” in this region you also have to visit the “Mosteiro de Lorvão” and the windmills from Penacova.
The windmills of “Gavinhos” who are 16 in total they turned in the past, cereals into wheat in order to make breat, the locals came with their sacs of cereals to the mills and the owner was making the cereals into wheat.
Nowadays it is a nice location to spent some time and to view over the region, from the statue on the location you have a wonderful view over the surrounding area. Enough place to park the car,

It was an adventure going in search of these windmills. I knew they overlooked Penacova so I had put that in the gps. But when we got there we couldn't see where they could be. I finally just typed in Windmills of Gavinhos on Google maps (that we had downloaded to work offline) and it took us thru a little village (with very narrow cobblestone roads and tight corners) and then there was a sign! What a surprise! It lead us straight to them. It was a very foggy evening, almost dark and they looked like ghosts rising out of the mist. We were the only ones there and it was a such a treat. So beautiful and photographic....even in the fog! We loved this adventure and would seek it out again.

Windmills sympathetically restored and preserved for future generations. It can only be a good thing!

I happened past these windmills on my way to Lorvao. Some nice isolated windmills with a nice view towards Penacova and the Mondego river.
