We were on a relaxing day trip from Kaiteriteri to Takaka when we came across the road sign for Harwoods Hole Walk 11 km off Highway on dusty unsealed road. But it was well worth it. Parked the car in the shade and set off on the 45 min easy walk through wonderful beech forest with glimpses of blue sky... More

Loved the drive in to the walk, spectacular bush not a walk for the unfit or elderly but well worth it to look down that deep hole which I found very scary indeed

This hike is wonderful! The drive about 1.5 hours from Nelson City center and well worth it. The google map link on here took us to 93 wharf road but there was still 40 minutes drive that remained. Make sure to take SH 60 all the way up the mountain and you will come to a company that does cave... More

The first part of getting to Harwoods Hole is the road in. You go on a narrow metal road for several kms. On the way you travel past some of the filming sights for Lord of the Rings. Once at the beginning of the walk to Harwoods Hole you walk in a forest of tall trees unlike most bush in... More

After two failed attempts to get up the road, we finally made it to the carpark on our third attempt. We are glad we kept trying because the walk to the hole went through a forest unlike any others we have walked through in New Zealand. The view of the hole once you get there leaves you wishing you could... More

We visited Harwood's Hole today in the worst possible weather but it was worth it and made the forest walk seem more mystical and magical (even though we were soaked and walked through a million puddles getting our shoes all wet). Climbing over all the rocks made the walk more fun and an adventure. We didn't get much of a... More

An easy walk through beech forest with bird-song. However, as you get close to Harwoods hole the terrain becomes suitable only for people with agility as the ground is very rocky. The Hole is impressive and awe inspiring. There is also an option to walk up to the right of the hole to see amazing karst rock formations with a... More

We walked this on a early morning in winter - the drive in to the walk is very scenic and the walk is pretty. One has to be of reasonable fitness though as there is a fair amount of rock clambering at the end. In winter the rocks are icy and slippery so we did not venture too close to... More

We had no idea what awaited us at the end, but even on the rainy day we went it was well worth the puddles in our boots.
