These guys show the benefit of a guide on a walk like this. We left The Chateau on their bus on a day when none of the shuttles were running. We got to the start of the walk around 9 and set off in a cold, gale force wind. Getting near the top, the mist came down and we weren't... More

We often take guided hikes because we like to get the additional information about the area and have been on dozens of guided hikes in the US and in Europe and this was by far the least helpful guide we have had anywhere. We would've enjoyed the hike just as much if we were on our own as our guide,... More

My husband and I just came back from an amazing guided hiking trip, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. It was organized and guided by Stu. From start to finish this was the most positive experience for all the hikers in this group. We got picked up from Lake Taupo and driven to the start of the track. Our lunch was prepared,... More

We booked our Tongariro Crossing several months in advance and had a tight schedule around North Island to keep to. So we were very disappointed when we arrived in the National Park the day before to find the cloud base at about 500 feet - there wasn't a mountain / volcano in sight. We spoke to Adrift who told us... More

We booked to Climb Mt Ruapehu with Adrift based on a recommendation. Stew was our guide, he owns the company. Met on the mountain and discussed weather which was not good. We really wanted to go, as we were preparing for another much bigger climb, and Stew said it was safe, but we would get wet. Stew taught us some... More

Very poor experience with Adrift. Weather was windy so it was decided to start from opposite end of hike and not complete crossing. We went half way out and back. However, we saw many hikers coming from the other direction who clearly completed the crossing. We should have started earlier when weather was better. Start time was far too late.... More

I seriously recommend going unguided after my experience with Adrift. At least then I would have experienced success, rather than be humiliated. I was scheduled for a sunrise hike, which was postponed due to weather (understandable). However a group walk the next day was very disappointing. Sam was very unhelpful and I felt pushed to continue walking despite me being... More

My daughter and I flew from NY to do the 3 day (2 night) Northern Circuit. Not knowing what to expect, we hired Adrift and we were both very happy with our guide (James) and the overall experience that the Adrift team provided. On the first morning of our hike, Adrift picked us up from our hotel and took us... More

We are not fit, not accomplished walkers so thought we ought to have a guided tour. Sam was our man. Very laid back and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He guided us safely at an appropriate pace ensuring rest stops etc. Sam also doubled up as cameraman to take photos. Adrift can provide you with hats, gloves, boots, Sun glasses and... More

We were only one night in the area and had scheduled the sunset hike as a specific. Andrea met us and took us on a fabulous journey and short hike into the forest. The weather had shifted, so we were not able to get to the sunset view area but the views, nature and information were amazing. I will go... More
