Did a private tour as group tour operator let me down.So glad I went you could catch a public bus if you are game really cheap but I went for the tour option even though my
guide didn't do the tour while we were inside. The guides that operate in the complex are knowledgeable but make it fun and interesting. I didn't do the museum so cant comment on that.Beautifully landscaped gardens interesting sculptures and art had a real lovely feel about the place not tacky at all and the guide was only $4.00 she was wonderful.Take your passport or copy they will stamp it with Middle of the World stamp.

It is worth the visit, hopefully the museum will not be still under renovation on the 2nd floor. Although under renovation we still had to pay full price for 1st floor and the viewing deck on top. There are lots of tourist shops. You can get a local bus from town return for about $2 but may need to change buses en route.

Because the Equator is a line, there are many points where it is possible to visit it. Most tourists venture to the Mitad del Mundo on the north side of Quito but if you're planning on taking a trip to Cayambe or Otavalo, you can visit another Mitad del Mundo.

The small town of Guachalá has built two monuments, one tucked in the shade away from the central plaza that appears to be very old and probably original to the site, and a newer modern cement globe through which the Equator runs. There is a also a small pedestal with a single egg balanced on the geodosic marker placed by an international geographical institute. You can take some interesting photos of the egg, the equatorial line, and your friends standing on either side of the Equator just in front of the globe.

It is much less crowded than the more famous stop. It is probably not worth going out of your way to visit but since the current direct route to Otavalo from Quito is closed, this is the only way to go. You might as well take the time to stop, take a few photos, and maybe even eat a meal. Several restaurants offer comida tipica and several vendors were offering items for sale.

After leaving, we realized that there was another place to visit across the street and a tad further down the highway.
