Nice and historical

The village was built on a foothill area, which led to the use of staircase architecture in the construction of its houses. This unique architecture along with the special materials of the region and the beauty of the desert have created a memorable image.

A village that cares about the environment.

When you take a trip from Shahroud - Sabzevar road toward the south to go through Biarjomand protected area to reach Qale Bala, you'll be amazed by the beauty of nature in the area. It's certainly worth driving through this area.

Then, you go through the fields that are semi-arid and almost quite arid to reach the village. The village has got water with solar panels on the mud-made roof-tops of the house. Despite this, it's kept its traditional identity with kind people and tasty local dishes.

I recommend you to take a walk through the gardens and have some tea in a local teahouse to feel the serenity of the village.

What surprised me more than anything else is the people's awareness of the richness of the wildlife in the area and how valuable it is for them. They care and protect it. There must have been some education here that everyone considers this important. I wish this was true about all the villages in Iran.

Trip to Qalebala
Jan. 2017 • Friends
We went there in January so it was kind of cold and there were no green plants there. Very dry and desert like.
Overall it was a nice place but of course Not a "must-see" place in my opinion. Hospitable , friendly and kind people were there.

Beautiful traditional village in the middle of the desert

I stayed 4 days in Qale Bala in April and discovered a lot about Iranian traditional culture ! The houses in the village are all made from ancient technique and some women are making really beautiful handcraft (some hand towels called Taneh and some colorful sewed napkins). The village is build on the side of a mountain so the view on the area is really beautiful. Many people come here to discover the Turgan natural Parc and its wildlife (famous for the Iranian ground Jay and the Cheetahs) or simply to relax. I stayed in a lovely guesthouse called Touran Gasht Guesthouse in the old part of the village and enjoyed great food and nice company! I would definitely recommend the place to all nature and wildlife lovers. (There is also a daily bus that is coming directly from Shahrood - a city nearby)

Amazing village in Iran - Qale bala- top castle village
Apr. 2015 • Friends
I want to share you my experience about one of the most exciting place in Iran.
Few days ago i visited a village in the southeastern Iran called روستای قلعه بالا - Qale bala (top castle village). This a very unique village because its geographical location - few meters far away from the National park Khar Turan, eco-tourism, nature, architecture - village is built on the stone hill and the houses are done made by cob material, local food products and handicrafts. the most important is it that it is absolutely different from other villages of the whole Iran.

Unfortunately i could not find any information about this place on trip advisor or lovely planet. even in google there is only few info available and most of them in Persian language. this is the link i found

we started our trip from Tehran. The way took about 6-7 hours. There were highway on the whole road that made the trip safe and comfortable. After arrival in Qaleuh bala we stayed at the place called “ Khoone Omid” (in English “House of Wishes”). This place is amazing because of several reasons. First, it has amazing, unbelievable view over the village. You can see the old style houses, nature, cliffs and even if you are lucky some kinds of animals. Second, It has a huge balcony with fireplace built in the unique style. . We spent hours sitting there, drinking tea and enjoying our evening. Third , the hosts are very friendly, they did their best to please us. They prepared food for us all kind of foods…breakfast, lunch, dinner and the food was really delicious.

Next day in the morning we had a walk in the village. We went to the top of the hill, from where we enjoyed awesome view over the whole area. The narrow streets, natures, trees, architecture is so impressing, that I could not stop taking pictures. Every corner is beautiful, really every corner.

i recommend everyone to visit and enjoy Qale Bala :)
