Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

Only writing this to make sure people know this attraction is closed Nov to March...or sometime. It was open for a craft sale so we visited and was nice to visit in part.

We visited this castle on our anniversary weekend and we took the tour inside. The lady doing the tour did a fantastic job and she knew absolutely everything about the history of this castle ( and there is a lot to know ). The tour wasn't that long but what was shown was was amazing. A must seen for sure... More

Best afternoon for a while. A great visit to the castle on a nice but cold day. The house is just amazing and is stuffed with superb furniture and antiques. The guides positioned here n there around the house don't half know their stuff too. I could have spent a week there. Just fabulous and is a must do if... More

On our CIE bus tour of Scotland we visited many castles. This one was my favorite with a self-guided tour, lots of time to enjoy all the antiques and awsome grounds and gardens. The bagpiper walking around the outside was was very fitting. Could have spent all afternoon there.

There's a good bit to see in the Castle itself with well designed information boards in each room. There's many lovely paintings around the house. It takes quite a while to go around so leave yourself plenty of time if you are going there later in the day. The gardens are lovely and I found the information display about the... More

Very sorry to see this fantastic old place go downhill so much. The entire house is in need of decoration, it is most shabbily and disheveled Not good to see this historic building not being cared for by the present owner and management Won't be back again

Hi Richie, we were disappointed to read your comments. Blair Castle hasn't gone downhill in any way so we're also puzzled by your comments. I can assure you that, as a 5-star visitor attraction, this castle is very well cared for by its owners and management. More
