Ellis Bird Farm was a delightful way to spend a sunny afternoon. I visited with my mother and grandmother and none of the trails were too strenuous. The grounds are beautifully maintained with gardens and water features all over the place. They have goats and hens in addition to the birds and butterflies everywhere. They are clearly passionate about conservation. There is an excellent visitor centre. Everyone really enjoyed our time here :)

The Ellis Bird Farm is a lovely, relaxing place to visit. The food and service at the cafe is excellent. It would also be a fun place for a picnic with lots of picnic tables and shady spots on a summer day. The self-guided tour is informative and easy to follow. A great place to spend a day with friends or family!

One of our chosen locations for day tripping this summer was Ellis Bird Farm and we had a blast! Due to the Bluebird festival it was fairly busy, but hardly noticeable due to the varied paths and plenty of things to see and do! The boys (8, 11, and 12) were engaged the whole 5 hours we were there! "Look, Mom" was the common phrase. On it's own the farm would probably take 2-3 hours on a typical day. With the extra festival activities, 5 hours was perfect. We learned how to encourage a natural bird population to thrive and the variety of birds we should be seeing. Each of us made a nest box to put up at our own homes! The Cafe in the original house has excellent food, but you can easily find a shaded picnic table for a picnic lunch as well. Save room for some ice cream! This beautiful 1906 homestead turned into an amazing experience for the whole family! Take the time to stop and visit. It is more than worth the while as my 12 year old said.

Located in the County of Lacombe is a quiet, wonderfully peaceful place where individuals, families or school groups can discover life on a working farm! The educational programs they have developed for children are so good, and the numerous, beautiful plaques around the area are helpful in understanding more of the wildlife there. The tea house there offers a delicious lunch and dessert selection, so staying for a while is of no concern. And the gift shop has many locally made, interesting little items to gift a friend or yourself with! The gardens are particularly beautiful so those photographers out there should not miss this place!
It is open from the May long weekend until the September long weekend every year, so visit a few times; the gardens and birds change as the seasons do! There are paved paths to walk on, or to push a wheelchair/walker on if needed. There is no set charge to enter, but there is a donation box--please donate so this gem can continue being a place to enjoy out in the country!

Took our grandkids , couldn't get away from the pond with all the bugs and insects they had never seen . Next highlight was to see the little goats and lambs up close . Fun watching the excitement in there eyes . Ice creamat the end was a bonus .

Ellis Farm is a lovely spot. The kind of place you go lower your blood pressure. Perfect for families. My children (ages 12, 10, 5) loved the dipping pond. They were thrilled with the minnows, water bugs and other creepy crawlers they pulled from the water to view in viewing trays. Goats, chickens, tractors, fearless squirrels, nests with baby birds, hidden pathways all thrilled the kids. We finished our day with a proper pot of tea and slices of pie. The pie was wonderful. I would highly recommend it. Service in the restaurant was slow but it's a pleasant environment.

We went as a family to the Ellis Bird Farm in July 2013. The drive there was uncomplicated and the farm is very easy to find. The instructions on their website work perfectly.
We drove and parked on the grass with all the other cars, we walked into the property up the pathway past interesting and beautiful gardens. And then we noticed the birds. There were so many of them and they were all singing and flying from bird house to bird house. We took some really great photos of the property and birds.
The staff is very friendly and willingly answered any questions we had. The interpretive centre has some very unique information and neat things to buy - like chickadee houses that can either be completed yourself or already finished.
I would highly recommend this site as a children's venue because of the petting zoo and the pond that they will find fun and informative. There is a tea house there too for a quick coffee or dessert before you head back to wherever you live.

The bird farm is always a good time and very educational! I like seeing the owls. The purple Martin condos are also cool.
