Visited off season (September). Just two of us. It was $10 each. Allows for a second entry later, so you can see the animals at day and at night (to catch the nocturnal ones when they are active). I don't have an exact count, but there were roughly 50 glass enclosures, each with one or more animals. Snakes, turtles, frogs,... More

Not a bad place to spend an hour or so looking at turtles, frogs, and snakes. Decent size and plenty of variety. I liked the boa constrictor.

Despite the massive price, this is a good place to kill an hour or so. There are lots of species, and the people who work there are knowledgable. Some of the animals are in slightly cramped conditions however none look ill. You can return at any time in the next 2 days after buying your ticket.

My husband and I are huge snake lovers and while they have a large diversity of snakes here and most of them are supposed to be rescue snakes, we weren't exactly pleased with the condition of the snakes and their living environments. We heard some local rumors which may have colored our experience, but since my husband has had many... More

In the tour book it mentioned guided tours, but I when we visited there were no tours. The exhibits look old and the people working there seemed disinterested. Really not worth the price

My 12 yo son loves learning about all kinds of creatures, and so this place was great for him. It's smallness was actually a bonus point, as we were able to see everything without spending too much time. They offered a guide without extra charge, and Gabrielle was delightful: enthusiastic and informative, really went out of her way to give... More

A decent collection of reptiles and amphibians from Costa Rica. Signs are adequate and the collection appears to be relatively clean and well cared for. Found $48 for a family of 4 for 45 mins pricey (in theory ticket allows for a return visit...).

This is the kind of place your kid's class visits on school field trips, to see lots of snakes in glass aquariums. It always makes me sad to be in a place with powerful wild animals in captivity in small spaces. I wouldn't necessarily include this in your Monteverde trip unless you've never seen snakes in acquariums before. That said,... More

The serpentarium is smaller but has snakes and frogs. We had a guided tour which allowed us to find the creature in each cage. We then came back at night (ticket is good for one night tour) with flashlights and that was fun. We used this activity to fill in an unscheduled afternoon, which was a good idea. Plus, it's... Small and a bit pricey for what you see but the reptiles and frogs are more likely to be seen here than hiking through the rainforest. A ticket will get you two entries in one day. Also the staff is very helpful in locating tiny frogs in their enclosures. There are also several guided tours per day. My suggestion...don't go... More
