The Open Air Water-Power Museum in Dimitsana (Peloponnese) is a thematic museum centered on the importance of hydraulic power in traditional societies, which presents the basic pre-industrial techniques using water as their main source of energy to produce various goods.It is the first open-air museum of pre-industrial technology in Greece and it has been awarded a Europa Nostra prize. It consists of the diligently restored premises of a number of water-powered small industries in the Dimitsana area, comprising watermill, cloth fulling-tub,tannery and gunpowder mill. The Open Air Water-Power Museum belongs to the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation Museums Network.

nice little museum about how water power was used in the pre industrial times (that is to say: in Greece until the early sixties). very good info on how the water power + mills were. If you are in Dimitsana, its worth to visit. I Had the pleasure of visiting the place when i was in that town. Small Old well maintained museum. Learned new things and left satisfied.

It is in excellent condition. The employees are doing a great job there. I went there with my wife and although we were the only visitors, the guide was there to guide us at the museum. I really enjoyed this open air museum. I really love water related things like fountains and water falls. It was neat to see how water was used to do traditional things, such as working in a tannery and gun powder mill. My favorite however was all the neat water scenes which made for good pictures.

Open Air water power museum is close to Dimitsana. Very interesting to see how they used the water power back in time. There is a gun powder mill that they start upp so you could see how it was done. No real gunpowder. Accidents happend ... You could also see an ordinary grain mill and how it worked. If you... More
