A lovely route, we did it in July two adults and two teenagers. The route starts from the bridge of the town of Konitsa. If you come from the town, cross the bridge and start walking to the left until the fork. We chose the right route that goes up towards the mountain. It is a more challenging route but the views from it are amazing. The location of the monastery at the top of the mountain is breathtaking. On the way back we again chose a split on the right track, this time it is along the river. You can make stops along the way. Take plenty of water on a hot day. In the monastery there is a place to fill bottles and toilets. I recommend taking food and snacks on the go. There are many places to stop for a picnic.
The length of the route is 6 km in each direction. It took us about 5 hours in total including photo and food stops. The route can be covered in about 3 hours by walking briskly without breaks.

The trail starts at the iconic Konitsa bridge. There is about 500 metres of forest path and then you will find the trail that goes up the mountain. You can go up the mountain trail or you can keep going on the forest path.
The forest path is pretty much straight forward with very few ups and downs. The mountain trail is much more uneven with frequent ups and downs. About 1km before the monastery the mountain trail merges again into the forest path.
Please note that the final 500 metres to the monastery is very steep uphill. Keep some energy for that final push.
The monastery and especially the view from there is really magical. Its totally immersed into nature with the Aoos river running below and mountains all around.
Overall you should budget about half day for this activity. Highly recommended.

The hike from car park up to the monastery takes around 90min. The monastery itself is spectacular and you can look down into the Aoos gorge from above. Beautiful mountains all around.

The true highlight is the hike along the Aoos river!
Pick the old path in the hills and woods (and not along the riverbed). It’s a wonderful cool walk and impresses with an incredible biodiversity!
Along that path, there are few stops to enjoy the view and to reenergise.
The monastery is nice and offers a great view of the Aoos valley, has a nice little chapel.
