“Where else in the world can you jump on the back of a trailer and get towed along the beach by a 1949 Minneapolis-Moline tractor to a bird colony?” Established in 1952, Gannet Beach Adventures has a long history of providing tours on a spectacular stretch of the Hawke’s Bay coastline, from Clifton to Cape Kidnappers. This unique, fun eco-experience tour involves travel with local experienced guides by vintage tractors and trailers on a comfortable four-hour adventure to the largest mainland gannet colony in the world. Departing on the days’ low tide, visitors travel by tractor and trailer along the majestically rugged coastline. Photographic opportunities abound as stops are made throughout the journey giving visitors an insight into how nature’s forces have shaped this amazing area.

What an awesome day out. We are local but hadn't done this tour so decided to give it a go with our toddler. It was amazing. Great guide, fun, beautiful views and such a wonderful experience. Highly recommend taking a carseat for little ones as this made it safe and easy. Great value for money.

First time I have been on this adventure and to see 6 tractors that are over 60 years old towing trailers full of happy faces was an experience to enjoy. Our driver Colin, would stop every now an again to explain various things such as an earthquake fault line, or the various layers that are visible on the sides of... More

It's about the journey not the destination. This is the third time I've done this trip along the beach and would be happy to go again. The drivers have plenty of information to share and as you stop to see gannets on the way there is no need to do the walk to the top if it is too much... More

This is not my first trip with Gannet Beach adventures, but it's been a good 8 years and time for another trip up the coastal road on a tractor...what more could you want, a nice lazy day sitting on the trailer, being given all the info on the local area, rock formations and a bit of water to add to... This was one of the highlights of our visit to the North Island. A brilliant set up and the best way to get to see the amazing Gannet colony and beautiful scenery at Cape Kidnappers. It's a four hour trip in total but it flew by. We had Colin on our tractor who was superb-very funny and entertaining and also... More

If you're visiting the North Island, this trip is a must! Hop on a tractor trailer and enjoy the 9km ride along the beach, Colin is an excellent guide, knowledgable & friendly with great kiwi humour!! The cliffs, the sea and of course the gannets make for a hugely enjoyable few hours. I can't recommend this trip highly enough.

We were drawn to this option as the images of the tractor and beach hopping trailers is something very Kiwi. We chose the day to be a little cooler and we were lucky to have some cloud cover. There were 5 tractors, we went with Brian who was quite a character. The thought of going up the beach in old... More
