In the heart of mid-winter we enjoyed an outstanding visitor experience courtesy of Ruth, our tour guide. Perhaps, in the high season, it might be more hectic but, for us, it was a very exclusive tour for two. It's not difficult to see why Belleek Pottery is expensive because it is all painstakingly hand crafted. Highly recommended but, beware, the tour buses visit in their droves in high season. Be sure to pre-book your tour.

What an amazing time. we had with Martin on our Turf Bog Tour. OMG if you are visiting this area in Ireland this is a MUST DO experience. We so wanted to do the tour but had rented a car that could not be taken into the North of Ireland (restrictions). No bother at all, Martin from McAndrews arranged to pick us up in the South side of Ireland and we are able to park our car safely and take advantage of the tour.

Transportation to the Bog is provided along some windy county roads, the peace and beauty just falls upon you and on reaching the bog and getting out to smell the pure fresh Irish air, the ' Breesy mountain', the turf piles and take in the scene was just majestic.

It is recommended to wear/bring old shoes. (we forgot) but had a dry day on the bog so no harm done. The bog was like walking on sponge with a variety of trails leading to turf furrows.

The company was fantastic as we listened to old Irish stories, history of turf cutting, (learned so much), the matter of fact way of talking that made you feel right at home and the patience and sheer fun of learning how to cut the turf, stack, dry, load, etc... well it was an experience we will never forget.

There was absolutely no rush on anything, we could cut as much turf as we wanted, stack, lay out etc.... it was a very relaxing experience that was like being out with family for the day.

As if that all wasn't enough we were then treated to a turf fire on the bog where we boiled some Irish tea and had some home baked bread and jam, it was so serene and that air sure made the tea and bread a very welcome treat.

Afterwards we were escorted to the crash site of the Canadian WW11 plane for which there is a memorial high up into the woods. Being from Canada we found this very poignant and the beautiful touch of a Canadian Maple tree growing near by was just so moving. That Martin keeps this story of both tragedy and survival alive through his tours is a testament to the caring nature that came across in everything he shared with us.

We spent a few weeks touring Ireland and this day is one that will stay in our hearts and memory always.

We were sad to part ways after being safely delivered back to our car and I would absolutely recommend to everyone, it was definitely a highlight in our vacation and is a great way for families to spend some fun time together.

Having read the reviews of others before visiting I was really looking forward to this shop and we had some presents to buy so was hoping to get that done here. Only one family allowed at a time in the shop which was good as the place is small and distancing would otherwise be difficult. We browsed for 10-15 minutes and left empty handed although we tried hard. The stock was limited and much of the items are standard gift shop items found in similar gift shop places. Not a bad experience but not quite the fabulous gift shopping experience I had hoped for either based on others reviews. The owners are lovely and I wished I could have supported this shop better by making a purchase as I really wanted to. I’m sure others will find this more suitable for what they want.
