What travellers are saying
- eva16 contributionsIzumo-Taisha Shrine is the place that brings back my great memories, having visited many times since I was a kid. The shrine shows us various appearances in each of the four seasons. In particular, "Kitajima" on the right side of Okaridenmae ( the temporary shrine building ) has a small waterfall and a pond with carps swim. The place is surrounded by nature, with cherry blossoms in the spring and colored leaves in the fall. Weddings are held there, which makes me feel very happy.Written June 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ZimminaroundtheworldOkinawa Prefecture, Japan1,911 contributionsThe lighthouse area and coastline here is absolutely beautiful! The lighthouse itself is pretty, reminded me of some of the ones in New England. I came later in the day, I did not go inside the lighthouse, instead I wandered the grounds as I've been to many. Although the lighthouse is neat and an attraction in itself, I feel the location is the main attraction. There are shops and restaurants in the area and a nice trail that goes by it and beyond. The views from the trail are incredible, some of the prettiest coastline I've seen while in Japan. The drive here is quick from downtown or from the main shrine, so definitely make an effort to visit this area.Written October 19, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You should probably visit this before heading to the shrine.
The audio guide was really nice and I enjoyed this museum a lot!
There's a place to leave your backpack etc...

Around sunset time there are many people waiting for capture the sunset. If you go there by train make sure the time schedule it running only once every hour.Written October 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MasayoshiFujisawa, Japan3,949 contributionsYou can see the red shrine from the main road. The shrine is below the road surrounded by greenery.
The sight is off the main road close to the bay, sea rocks, and fisherman's places.
The shrine is a set of relatively small sacred structures.

The 1,300 year old cedar tree was magnificent and felt like it was cleansing the air. There were not a lot of visitors when we went on a weekday afternoon. The streets are narrow, so you'll want a compact car to get here. And it's not very convenient without a car to get here.Written June 26, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jeffreyrgHigashihiroshima, Japan42 contributionsVisiting this old station feels like going back in time. You can still see the schedules, mannequins wearing the original uniform, the railtracks and the train. The best part is it is free and near the other tourist spots.Written February 7, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - eva16 contributionsTachikuekyo is located deep in the mountains of Izumo City. It took 40 minutes by car from Izumo City Station, which is a long way from the city. Still, it was worth the drive, and the nature was very rich. Almost no traffic noises.
At riverside, there is beautiful campground with excellent facilities, including washrooms and shower rooms, very comfortable. Great place to walk your dog on a day trip. You can try to walk a bridge that looks a bit old and scary, but it's okay if you think it as an attraction!

Started from the lighthouse, on the maintained nature paths, from a parking to the parking.
Some local food shops, and souvenir shops.
The main feature is the ocean view.

It proved to be a crazy little station right in the middle of the main shopping street. From the outside you hardly recognize this to be a train station. Very interesting building.
It also is the final station of a really beautiful, one hour taking, train ride along the northern shore of Lake Shinji. So during the ride you can enjoy some very spectacular views over the lake.Written September 2, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
